Wild's Travis Boyd: Highlights Black Aces

What that means is Boyd no longer needs to be returned to AHL Iowa if Kirill Kaprizov (lower body) or Marat Khusnutdinov (lower body) return Monday versus Winnipeg, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic. It's possible Minnesota did this in anticipation of Kaprizov playing against the Jets, but the star forward is officially a game-time decision. Boyd has two goals and 11 points in 13 AHL outings in 2024-25. He also made his NHL season debut Saturday, but he didn't record any points, shots, hits or blocks in 8:23 of ice time.

The Wild recalled Boyd from AHL Iowa under emergency conditions Friday.
Boyd has two goals and 11 points in 13 appearances with Iowa in 2024-25. He hasn't played for Minnesota yet, but the 31-year-old does have 47 goals and 118 points across 296 career NHL regular-season outings. Since he's with the team under emergency conditions, he won't be able to play unless a questionable forward is unable to suit up. If he draws into the lineup Saturday versus Calgary, it will likely be as a part of the bottom six.

After logging just 16 games with the Coyotes last season, the Minnesota native signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Wild this offseason. Boyd played in just 16 games for the Coyotes last season in which he tallied two goals, six assists and 12 shots on net while averaging a mere 9:37 of ice time. Based on his two-way deal, it seems the Wild may view Boyd as more of a veteran presence for their minor-league club -- though he does have a pair of 30-point seasons under his belt. How healthy Boyd is come training camp will likely determine whether he makes the Opening Night roster, and he's unlikely to see more than a bottom-six role.

Coyotes' Travis Boyd: Set to miss remainder of season
Boyd -- who sustained a torn pectoral muscle -- is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign, Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports reports Monday.
Boyd was on track for another solid season after putting up eight points through the first 16 contests of the year. In fact, Boyd seemed to be a lock to reach the 30-point threshold for the third consecutive campaign and might have even set a new personal best. Instead, the pending unrestricted free agent could have played his last game in the desert.
