  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Participates in morning skate

Ekblad (illness) was on the ice for Monday's morning skate, Rob Darragh of the Panthers' official site reports.

As expected, Ekblad is poised to return to the lineup against Nashville on Monday following a one-game absence. He has generated one goal, four assists, 33 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and 23 hits across 20 appearances this season. With Ekblad set to play, Donovan Sebrango will be a healthy scratch, and Uvis Balinskis will be back on the third pairing.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Absence clarified

Ekblad missed Saturday's game versus the Oilers due to an illness rather than the previously reported upper-body injury, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Ekblad is expected to be fine for Monday's game in Nashville, but it will be worth checking in on his status prior to the contest. The 29-year-old defenseman hadn't missed a game this season prior to Saturday, but he has disappointed with just five points and a minus-5 rating over 20 appearances.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Slated to miss Saturday's game

Ekblad (upper body) won't be available for Saturday's home game versus Edmonton.

Ekblad's upper-body injury will cause him to miss his first game of the season in a rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Finals. Donovan Sebrango will draw back into the lineup due to Ekblad's absence. The right-shot blueliner's next chance to suit up will come Monday in Nashville.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Snags assist in high-scoring win

Ekblad registered an assist, two shots on goal, two hits and three blocked shots in Monday's 8-5 win over the Canucks.

Ekblad's November isn't going much better than his October -- he's been limited to two assists with a minus-7 rating over eight games this month. The 29-year-old is at a total of five points, 31 shots on net, 22 hits, 26 blocks, 12 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 19 appearances. The one silver lining is that he hasn't gotten swept up in the Panthers' injury woes yet, but his production has suffered anyway since the team is missing key players. Ekblad can still help in non-scoring areas, and he should bounce back on offense as the year progresses.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Pots winner on power play

Ekblad scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an even-strength assist in Saturday's 6-2 victory over the Senators.

After setting up Evan Rodrigues for a first-period tally, Ekblad snapped home his own goal from the top of the faceoff circle just 35 seconds into the second frame. The points were the first of the year for the 29-year-old blueliner, but Ekblad is seeing a regular shift on the Panthers' top power-play unit and should be productive when he's on the ice, for however long that might be -- he's averaged only 59.8 regular-season games over the last four seasons.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Set to play against Chicago

Head coach Paul Maurice said Monday that Ekblad (undisclosed) is good to go for Tuesday's Opening Night matchup against Chicago, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Ekblad sustained an undisclosed injury early in Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay, but the issue won't force him to miss the start of the regular season. He made 56 regular-season appearances for the Panthers last year, recording three goals, 30 assists, 90 hits, 64 blocked shots and 53 PIM while averaging 23:31 of ice time.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Hurt early in Saturday's game

Ekblad (undisclosed) won't finish Saturday's preseason game versus the Lightning.

Ekblad was on the receiving end of a hit from Scott Sabourin, leading to the first of many ejections in the game. The 29-year-old Ekblad's exit may be precautionary, but nonetheless, his status for Opening Night versus the Blackhawks on Tuesday is now in question. If Ekblad misses time, Seth Jones and Gustav Forsling will likely help cover his absence, while Jeff Petry might gain power-play time.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Agrees to eight-year extension

Ekblad signed an eight-year, $48.8 million contract extension with Florida on Monday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Ekblad would have been a hot commodity on the open market as an unrestricted free agent, but he will remain with the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. Since being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, he has played for the Panthers for 11 straight years. In the 2024-25 regular season, he contributed three goals, 33 points, 106 shots on net, 64 blocked shots and 90 hits across 56 appearances. Ekblad will return to Florida's top pairing in the 2025-26 campaign, and he should see plenty of time on the power play.

  • Panthers' Aaron Ekblad: Assist in Cup wining game

Ekblad delivered an assist in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Oilers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

He also recorded two blocks in 21:37 of ice time as the Panthers' second-busiest defender. Ekblad had four goals, nine assists, 38 PIM, 36 shots and a plus-10 rating in 19 games this postseason. The oft-injured blueliner is an integral part of most fantasy teams, but he has struggled to stay on the ice over the last several seasons. Ekblad is a track-and-drop-down defender at drafts next fall. He delivers when he's on the ice, but there's no guarantee that he'll be out there helping you.
