Maple Leafs' Sammy Blais: Two points in team debut
Blais scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and logged five hits in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Blais hadn't played in the Maple Leafs' first 10 games. However, injuries have started to pile up -- William Nylander (lower body) was unavailable in the second half of a back-to-back, Scott Laughton (lower body) and Calle Jarnkrok (lower body) remain out and Steven Lorentz left Wednesday's game with an upper-body injury. As a result, Blais could get a chance to stay in the lineup. His two-point effort was a good first impression on the Toronto staff in a game where most players didn't do well.

Maple Leafs' Sammy Blais: Claimed off waivers
Blais was claimed off waivers by Toronto on Monday.
Montreal was hoping to send Blais back to AHL Laval after he racked up 40 points in 51 minor-league appearances for AHL Abbotsford last year. However, Toronto had other plans for the 29-year-old winger. Blais flashed offensive upside in his time with St. Louis, and perhaps a reunion with head coach Craig Berube will give Blais' NHL career a second life. With that said, he's unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact as he'll likely be fighting for bottom-six minutes in Toronto.

Canadiens' Sammy Blais: Put on waivers
Blais was placed on waivers by the Canadiens for the purpose of assignment to AHL Laval, the team announced Sunday.
Blais is in his first year as a member of the Canadiens' organization, and he will begin the season in the AHL. The 29-year-old spent the entirety of last season with AHL Abbotsford, enjoying a productive campaign with 59 points in 74 games, including the regular season and playoffs.

Canadiens' Sammy Blais: Back in NHL
Blais signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Montreal on Monday.
Blais spent last season playing on a minor-league deal with AHL Abbotsford after a tryout with the Canucks didn't pan out. The 29-year-old winger put up solid numbers in the minors, generating 14 goals and 26 assists in 51 regular-season contests before adding an impressive 19 points in 23 playoff tilts. The Montreal native has reached the 20-point threshold once in his NHL career and could be a steal for the Habs if he can reach that level again in 2025-26.

Sammy Blais: Cut loose from PTO
Vancouver released Blais on Monday from his professional tryout agreement.
Blais registered one goal, seven points, 33 shots on net and 194 hits in 53 regular-season games with St. Louis in 2023-24. The physical forward still has time to sign with another NHL team before the 2024-25 campaign starts.

Canucks' Sammy Blais: Agrees to PTO
Blais inked a professional tryout agreement with Vancouver on Thursday.
In addition to his PTO, Blais signed a one-year, minor-league contract with AHL Abbotsford. At a minimum, the 28-year-old winger will have a spot with the organization's minor-league system but will be hoping to secure at least a two-way deal coming out of training camp.

Blues' Sammy Blais: Four hits in win
Blais posted four hits and a shot on net across 7:27 of ice time in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Stars.
Blais is skating on the fourth line but is averaging 2.9 hits per game while maintaining a decent scoring touch with seven points through 27 games. He registered 20 points through 31 games last season while averaging 14:36 of ice time, so if he climbs the depth chart, he's worth taking a flier on, especially in DFS circles.

Blais certainly isn't known for games like this. Through 57 appearances in 2022-23, he's contributed six goals and 14 points. The 26-year-old also has only 23 goals in 190 career contests, but he's been finding the back of the net lately, providing four markers -- along with two assists -- over his last five games. It helps that Blais averaged 14:55 of ice time over four contests from March 9-15 and logged 13:29 versus Washington, which is up from just 10:36 over his first 52 outings.

Blais has four goals (seven points) in 14 games since returning to the Blues from the Rangers on Feb. 9. He played 54 games over two seasons with New York and didn't notch a goal. The line of Blais, Brandon Saad and Brayden Schenn combined for seven points (two goals, five assists) and was the Blues' best trio all night.
