  • Panthers' Brad Marchand: Two-point effort in win

Marchand scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Senators.

The veteran pest opened the scoring early in the first period before helping to set up Aaron Ekblad for what proved to be the game-winner in the second. Marchand's contributions have taken on added importance with Matthew Tkachuk (groin) out for a couple months and Aleksander Barkov (knee) likely done for the season, and he's stepped up with two goals and three points in the Panthers' first three games.

  • Panthers' Brad Marchand: Gets game-winner

Marchand scored a goal Thursday in a 2-1 win over Philadelphia.

Marchand put the Panthers ahead for good at 2:19 of the third when he sent a shot through traffic from the left point that went over Dan Vladar's left shoulder. Marchand already has 10 shots in two games this season after putting up just 19 in 10 games with the Panthers last year.

  • Panthers' Brad Marchand: Finalizing six-year deal

Marchand and the Panthers are putting the finishing touches on a six-year contract, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports Monday.

Per The Athletic, Marchand's new deal carries an AAV of $5.25 million. The fact that the team was willing to give the 37-year-old forward that much term does come as a bit of a surprise, so it's possible the contract is frontloaded to allow for a buyout in the future. Still, Marchand managed 51 points in 71 regular-season outings for the Bruins and Panthers while adding another 20 points in 23 postseason games that ended with Marchand and Florida lifting Lord Stanley's Cup.

Marchand has lit up the Oilers for six goals on 22 shots over five games in this series. His latest two-goal effort, his second of the round, has him up to 10 goals, 20 points, 45 shots on net, 33 hits, 48 PIM and a plus-18 rating over 22 playoff appearances. He's done the bulk of his scoring at even strength -- of his 10 goals this postseason, just one has come on the power play, and one other was a shorthanded tally.
