Top A.Q. Shipley News

  • Buccaneers' A.Q. Shipley: Placed on injured reserve

Shipley (neck) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Shipley is facing a career-threatening injury. Coach Bruce Arians acknowledged as much and mentioned in his comments to the media that Shipley would transition to become a coach on his staff. Shipley has yet to formally retire, though it sounds as if his days on the field are over.

  • Buccaneers' A.Q. Shipley: Injury could be career-ending

Shipley's neck injury may result in the end of his professional football career, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

The Penn State product was recently inserted into the starting lineup in place of Ryan Jensen, who slid over to left guard. Shipley was forced out of Monday's loss to the Rams late in the fourth quarter with what was initially believed to be a stinger, but it turns out the issue may be much more serious. "A.Q. Shipley appears to have had a career-ending injury," coach Bruce Arians told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday. "And I feel bad because I love A.Q. He's one of my favorite players of all time and was playing good for us. But I think it was a previous injury that might have just got aggravated in his neck." Tampa Bay may need to find a way to again reshuffle its offensive line until Ali Marpet (concussion) is able to return, but the most pressing concern is clearly for Shipley's long-term well-being.

  • Buccaneers' A.Q. Shipley: Reaches deal in Tampa Bay

Shipley signed a contract with the Buccaneers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Shipley played for head coach Bruce Arians in Arizona, and now he's poised to be Ryan Jensen's backup center in 2020.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Shakes off illness

Shipley (illness) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Steelers, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Shipley is expected to start at center in this contest.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Wins starting job

Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Friday that Shipley will be the team's starting center, Scott Bordow of The Athletic reports.

Shipley was able to beat out Mason Cole for the job, as Kingsbury prefers Cole as a depth lineman rather than a starter. Shipley, a Penn State product, regains his role, as he's started all 16 games at center for the team the past two seasons.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Back at practice

Shipley (ACL) participated in team and individual drills at OTAs on Wednesday, Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reports.

This is huge news for a player that missed all of last season with a torn ACL. The 32-year-old Shipley should be in the mix for a starting role if he incurs no setbacks before the regular season arrives.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Signs contract extension

Shipley (ACL) signed a one-year contract extension Friday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Shipley landed on IR earlier this offseason after suffering a season-ending ACL tear, so a one-year extension is a positive sign of Arizona's confidence in his recovery. The 32-year-old is now locked up through the 2019 season, and is all but guaranteed a role in the team's O-line next year if he can get healthy.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Lands on IR

The Cardinals moved Shipley (ACL) to injured reserve Tuesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Shipley suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Saturday's practice session, so it was only a matter of time before the shift to injured reserve was made official. Mason Cole has been named the team's new starting center in his absence.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Suffers torn ACL

Shipley suffered a season-ending torn ACL during Saturday's practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Shipley, a 32-year-old who struggled in the starting role last season, will head to IR shortly and stands to become a free agent next spring. Shipley's unfortunate injury paves the way for 2018 third-rounder Mason Cole to slide into the starting lineup. Evan Boehm and Daniel Munyer are expected to serve as backups to Cole.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Carted off practice field

Shipley was carted off the field during Saturday's practice after suffering an apparent left leg injury, Craig Grialou of AZCardinals.com reports.

Shipley was unable to travel from the field to the locker room under his own power, which isn't a promising sign as details surrounding his status await. Mason Cole filled in at center during Shipley's absence.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Active for Sunday's game

Shipley (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Texans, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Shipley was a limited participant in this week's practices, but he'll slot back into his starting center position Sunday.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Questionable for Sunday

Shipley is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans with a shoulder injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Shipley was limited in practice this week after playing all 80 offensive snaps in a Week 10 Thursday loss to the Seahawks. Evan Boehm would be the likely starter at center if Shipley can't play Sunday.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Returns to action

Shipley (shoulder) started in Saturday's preseason opener against the Raiders.

Shipley underwent surgery to repair a muscle issue in his shoulder during the offseason. It was unclear how along in his recovery he was, but his participation during Saturday's exhibition contest -- in which he logged 15 snaps -- indicates he is on track for a healthy start to the season.

  • Cardinals' A.Q. Shipley: Underwent shoulder surgery

Shipley underwent surgery to repair a muscle issue in his shoulder in May and is expected back by the start of camp, Kent Somers of AZCentral Sports reports.

Shipley is expected to start at center and shouldn't be hindered by his shoulder surgery when training camp begins. In the meantime, Tony Bergstrom will get reps as the starting center.
