Patriots' DeMario Douglas: Rested in preseason opener
Douglas was among the Patriots' key skill players who didn't play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts, Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports.
Also in that category were the team's top two WRs, A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, while Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins and Kyle Williams all saw action in the contest. Douglas is listed as a first-teamer along with Brown and Doubs on New England's unofficial depth chart, and it looks like he could be poised for an uptick in snaps/targets out of the slot this coming season after seeing his catch total in 2025 drop to 31 following a 66-catch effort in 2024. In that scenario, the 2023 sixth-rounder has a chance to resurface as a fantasy option in deeper PPR-friendly formats.

Patriots' DeMario Douglas: Running with first-team offense
Douglas is working with the first-team offense to begin training camp, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
The "most common grouping" Monday, according to Callahan, involved A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs out wide with Douglas in the slot. Kayshon Boutte mixed in at X receiver, and Brown moved around the formation. Right now, it sounds like the Patriots like Brown as the X, Doubs at the Z spot and Douglas working the middle of the field out of the slot. That leaves Mack Hollins, Efton Chism and Kyle Williams competing for sub-package snaps and rotational roles. Douglas played just 26.3 percent of the offensive snaps last regular season, but with Stefon Diggs out of the picture and Brown more of an outside prototype, Douglas could see his playing time come back up in 2026.

Patriots' DeMario Douglas: Added competition for targets
Douglas is in the mix to compete for snaps in three-receiver sets behind newcomers A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
The same applies to Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte and Kyle Williams, which gives Douglas a challenging path to steady volume this coming season. The 2023 sixth-round is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he caught a career-low 31 passes (on 46 targets) for 447 yards and three TDs in 17 regular-season contests, and it may take injuries within his team's WR corps in order for Douglas to provide reliable fantasy production in 2026.

Patriots' DeMario Douglas: Decreased usage in 2025
Douglas caught 31 of 46 targets for 447 yards and three touchdowns while logging seven carries for 21 yards over 17 contests during the 2025 regular season.
Douglas garnered only 288 total offensive snaps, which was 186 fewer than his previous low (474) from his rookie campaign in 2023. As a result of the smaller workload, the wide receiver recorded the fewest receptions and receiving yards of his three-year career with New England. With Stefon Diggs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins and 2025 third-rounder Kyle Williams all under contract at wide receiver for next season, Douglas will enter 2026 on an expiring deal with limited upside.

Patriots' DeMario Douglas: TD catch opens scoring Sunday
Douglas caught both of his targets for 36 yards and a TD in Sunday's 28-16 divisional-round win over the Texans.
Though Douglas finished fifth among New England WRs with 17 snaps on offense, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, he still managed to make a mark with a 28-yard score to give his team a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. As Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Broncos approaches, Douglas continues to carry modest fantasy upside at best given that he hasn't seen more than three targets in a game since Week 9.

Patriots' DeMario Douglas: One catch Sunday
Douglas caught one of his two targets for three yards in Sunday's 16-3 wild-card win over the Chargers.
Douglas recorded a 33 percent snap share in the contest, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, and once again saw a modest target share in an offense that tends to spread the ball around. The slot man carries modest fantasy upside as the Patriots divisional-round game against either the Steelers or Texans this coming weekend approaches.
