Saints' Jordan Howden: Steps forward in second season
In 17 games in 2024, Howden recorded 50 tackles (27 solo) and two interceptions.
Howden played almost the same number of defensive snaps in 2024 (526) as he did in his rookie season in 2023 (540), but this year he had more tackles and two picks to show for it. He was still firmly behind Tyrann Mathieu and Will Harris in the pecking order for playing time, but with the latter in line to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason, Howden might end up competing for more reps in 2025.

Howden registered eight tackles (four solo) during Thursday's 33-10 loss to the Broncos.
Howden got his second straight start at strong safety while Will Harris (hamstring) remains on IR. Howden has played every single snap over those two starts and has accumulated 19 tackles (seven solo). The Saints will get additional rest ahead of their next game against the Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 27.

Howden recorded 11 tackles (three solo) in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers.
Howden moved into a starting role with Will Harris (hamstring) placed on IR on Saturday. Howden played every snap against Tampa Bay and finished with a career-high tackle total. The 24-year-old will likely continue to see extended opportunity, at least in the short term, with Harris out at least three more weeks.

Saints' Jordan Howden: First interception of career Sunday
Howden registered three tackles (one solo) and one interception in Sunday's 47-10 win over Carolina.
Howden picked off quarterback Bryce Young on the fourth play of the third quarter on a pass intended for Adam Thielen. It was the first interception of Howden's career, and that turnover led to an Alvin Kamara one-yard touchdown run nine plays later. Howden played 44 of the Saints' 59 defensive snaps, as New Orleans rested most of its starters in the second half with a comfortable lead. Howden and the Saints' secondary have a much tougher challenge coming up as they travel to Dallas to face Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Week 2.

Howden appeared in 16 games during the 2023 regular season, tallying 43 tackles, including one sack, and five passes defended.
Howden provided some solid value during his 2023 rookie campaign. The fifth-round pick out of Minnesota was one of the primary fill-ins for starting strong safety Marcus Maye (shoulder), who was sidelined for the final six games of the year. Howden played at least 95 percent of defensive snaps in seven games, though he played 43 percent or less of defensive snaps in his other nine appearances. He'll look to work his way into a more full-time role in 2024.

Howden (illness) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Brooke Kirchhofer of NewOrleans.Football reports.
The rookie safety out of Minnesota was able to practice in full Friday after beginning the week with a DNP, making it seem as if he's been able to move past his illness. Howden has seen his role grow throughout the year, and in his 14 appearances thus far, he's recorded 41 total tackles, including 1.0 sack, while also deflecting five passes and forcing one fumble.

It's a step in the right direction for Howden after he could not participate at Wednesday's practice. If he's able to upgrade to full participation Friday, he will likely avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
