Thurman was waived by the Panthers on Wednesday.
Thurman has appeared in all nine games for Carolina this season, recording 19 combined tackles in the process. His exit comes as the Panthers have multiple players on the defensive side of the ball potentially set to return from injured reserve. If he can clear waivers, Thurman could find himself as a candidate to be added to the team's practice squad.

Panthers' Nick Thurman: Signs with Panthers
Thurman signed with Carolina on Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
The free agent was the second defensive lineman the Panthers added Monday. In five NFL seasons with five teams, Thurman has appeared in eight games and made 11 tackles. The 28-year-old will now get a chance with his sixth team to compete for a depth spot.

Falcons' Nick Thurman: Potential bigger role on tap
Thurman may play a larger role at right defensive end for the Falcons next season after the team waived John Cominsky on Thursday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
Thurman signed a contract with Atlanta in January after joining the team's practice squad last October and appeared in his first game for the team Week 17. The backup defensive end totaled 10 tackles and 120 defensive snaps over seven games with New England in 2020.

Thurman was signed to the Falcons' practice squad Tuesday.
Thurman was waived by the Patriots on Sept. 3 with an injury settlement related to an undisclosed injury. He appeared in seven games for the Patriots in 2020 in a part-time role while recording seven tackles. Wide receiver Keelan Doss was released in a corresponding move. Thurman will provide depth for the Falcons' defensive line and be ready for future Sundays if he's needed.
