  • Caleb Huntley: Works out with Baltimore

Huntley (Achilles) had a tryout with the Ravens on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Huntley suffered an Achilles injury in Week 15 of the 2022 campaign and went unsigned this offseason, but he now appears ready to return to action. With Keaton Mitchell (knee) done for the year, Baltimore is a potential destination for Huntley to get another shot.

  • Caleb Huntley: Gets cut loose

Huntley (Achilles) was waived by the Falcons with a failed physical designation Tuesday, Scott Bair of the Falcons' official site reports.

Huntley suffered the injury in Week 15 of last season and opened camp on the active/PUP list. It was believed that he was progressing well in his recovery, and it's unclear if he suffered any setbacks.

  • Falcons' Caleb Huntley: Placed on PUP list

Huntley (Achilles) was placed on the active/PUP list Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Huntley has been trending in the right direction in his recovery from the Achilles injury he suffered late last season, but he'll ultimately enter camp on the sidelines. The running back is eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason, though it remains to be seen if he'll be ready to play out of the gate this coming season.

  • Falcons' Caleb Huntley: Trending in positive direction

Huntley (Achilles) didn't participate in the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, but head coach Arthur Smith said he expects the running back to be on the field during training camp, Gabriel Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

"I'm optimistic," Smith said of Huntley's rehab. "It's certainly trending in a positive direction." Previous reports suggested that Huntley may start the season on injured reserve, but Atlanta's head coach clearly has a more positive outlook. However, the 2020 undrafted product out of Ball State's status for the start of 2023 will remain unclear until he actually takes the field during training camp. Even if he's healthy, Huntley will have a difficult time earning any touches in a running-back corps that featured Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson last year and added Bijan Robinson this offseason.

  • Falcons' Caleb Huntley: Expected to start 2023 on IR

Huntley (Achilles) is expected to start the 2023 campaign on injured reserve, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.

With Cordarrelle Patterson sidelined with a knee injury, Huntley emerged as a reliable depth option for Atlanta in 2022. He saw 76 rushing attempts across 118 offensive snaps, totaling 366 yards and one touchdown before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. Even when he's cleared, the undrafted Ball State product will have a difficult time seeing any kind of significant role after the Falcons added Bijan Robinson this offseason to a running-back corps that already featured solid options in Tyler Allgeier and Patterson.

  • Falcons' Caleb Huntley: Return timeline still unclear

Huntley's (Achilles) return timeline remains unclear, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.

After emerging as a reliable depth option, Huntley suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 15 last year. The undrafted running back out of Ball State earned the trust of head coach Arthur Smith as a rookie and saw at least 10 rushing attempts three times from Weeks 4 through 8 while Atlanta was dealing with an injury to Cordarrelle Patterson. If healthy, he figures to have a roster spot after his solid 2022 campaign, but the addition of first-round pick Bijan Robinson will make it difficult for Huntley to garner many touches even if he's at 100 percent.
