Colts' Samson Ebukam: Records sack in season opener
Ebukam had 1.0 sack and three total QB hits in Sunday's win over Miami.
It was a strong debut after recording a career-high 9.5 sacks last season. Ebukam played on 18 of the defense's 47 snaps. He looked at full speed despite nursing a back issue during the preseason. He'll get significant snaps as part of the rotation at defensive end.

Colts' Samson Ebukam: Full go for Week 1
Ebukam (back) did not appear on the Colts' injury report Wednesday.
Ebukam was nursing a back issue during the preseason, but he has now moved past the injury, setting him up to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against Miami. The 30-year-old played in all 17 regular-season games with Indianapolis in 2024, recording a career-high 57 total tackles (39 solo), including 9.5 sacks, while also adding three forced fumbles and a pass defensed.

Colts' Samson Ebukam: Did not play Saturday
Ebukam (back) did not play in Saturday's preseason loss to Green Bay.
Ebukam entered training camp fully recovered from a torn Achilles that he suffered in July of 2024, but he's dealing with a back issue that jeopardizes his status for the start of the regular season. Ebukam's absence would open the door for Tyquan Lewis, JT Tuimoloau and Durell Nchami to see more rotational snaps at defensive end behind Laiatu Latu and Kwity Paye (groin).

Colts' Samson Ebukam: Returns in limited capacity
Ebukam (Achilles) was a limited participant in Wednesday's training camp practice, Paul Bretl of USA Today reports.
Ebukam missed the entire 2024 season after tearing his Achilles during training camp. He's progressed enough in his recovery to be back on the practice field, though the Colts will limit his snap count as he eases his way back. Ebukam may be held out of preseason games, but the 30-year-old defensive end appears to be on track to play in the Colts' regular-season opener against the Dolphins on Sept. 7.

Colts' Samson Ebukam: Expects to be ready for training camp
Ebukam (Achilles) believes he will be cleared for full participation by the start of training camp, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Ebukam missed the 2024 season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon during a July 28 practice. The Colts must believe he'll be able to return, as he has a $10.49 million cap hit for 2025 and the team could have saved $6.49 million with his release. Ebukam had 9.5 sacks in 2023, but he'll have a daunting task returning to form coming back from an injury that could limit his explosiveness.
