49ers' Brian Robinson: Traded to 49ers
The Commanders are trading Robinson to the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Christian McCaffrey has remained healthy all summer, but nearly all of the 49ers' other running backs have missed time with injuries, including Isaac Guerendo (shoulder). Guerendo did return to practice earlier this week, but there's now risk he drops down the depth chart with San Francisco trading for Robinson, who has 40 starts and 22 TDs to his name in the NFL (including playoffs). The Commanders, meanwhile, are left with Austin Ekeler, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez and Jeremy McNichols in the backfield. Washington reportedly will receive a sixth-round pick and eat some of Robinson's $3.4 million base salary, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Commanders' Brian Robinson: Excused from practice
Robinson is not practicing Wednesday, and his absence is excused, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.
Robinson also sat out Monday's preseason loss to the Bengals, a mutual decision between himself and Washington. Head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday he hopes for a resolution soon, but Robinson's absence lends further credence to the building rumors that he's been placed on the trade block. Now on the final year of his year of his rookie deal, Robinson is set out to play the 2025 season with a $3.4 million salary, though he carries under $300,000 in dead cap. As a proven between-the-tackles contributor who averaged 4.1 yards per carry over the last three seasons, Robinson figures to draw at least modest interest around the league from teams in need of a competent big-bodied ballcarrier.

Commanders' Brian Robinson: Won't suit up vs. Bengals
Robinson will not play during Monday's preseason game against Cincinnati amid ongoing speculation about him being on the trade block, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.
Robinson is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has rushed for over 700 yards in three straight campaigns for Washington, having handled 187 carries for a career-high 799 yards (4.3 YPC) and eight touchdowns across 14 regular-season games in 2024. That Robinson won't take the field Monday alongside second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels lends more credence to rumors that Washington is willing to move on from the 2022 third-round pick via trade, as Jeremy Brener of SI.com reports, and potentially move forward with Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, Chris Rodriguez and rookie training camp standout Jacory Croskey-Merritt (shoulder) atop the depth chart instead. Per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports, the decision for Robinson to sit out Monday's preseason game is mutual between the running back and the team.
