Panthers' Derrick Brown: Past oblique injury
Brown (oblique) played in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans.
Brown was nursing a sore oblique last month but he saw his first action of the preseason versus Houston, playing one defensive series. Brown played in just one regular-season game last season due to a knee injury that required meniscus surgery.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Nursing oblique soreness
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Thursday that Brown (oblique) is managing soreness, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Brown is working his way back from meniscus surgery that addressed a knee injury that limited him to just one appearance in 2024, and he declared himself 100 percent healthy to kick off training camp. As such, Carolina figures to take a cautious approach as the starting defensive end works his way back from his current oblique issue. Canales reiterated Tuesday that Brown's surgically repaired knee "feels great."

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Declares self 100 percent
Brown (knee) practiced Saturday and stated he felt back to 100 percent, Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 reports.
Brown played just one game last season before undergoing season-ending meniscus surgery in September. In his last full season in 2023, Brown recorded 103 tackles (57 solo), six pass breakups and 2.0 sacks through 17 games. He's locked into a starting role on Carolina's defensive line heading into 2025.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Hoping to drill during camp
Brown (knee) should be ready to participate in drills during training camp on a limited basis, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Brown said in April that he'd be ready for the start of the regular season, per David Newton of ESPN.com. The defensive end only played in one game in 2024 due to a meniscus issue, but in 2023 he recorded 103 tackles (57 solo), including 2.0 sacks, and six pass breakups, including an interception. The 2020 first-round pick started 63 of 66 regular-season games across his first four seasons, and then he earned a four-year, $96-million extension ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Expects to be ready for Week 1
Brown (knee) said Wednesday that he's participating in voluntary offseason workouts and expects to be ready for the start of the regular season, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Brown missed all but one game of the 2024 season due to a meniscus injury, though he suited up for all 17 games in back-to-back prior seasons, including a 2023 campaign in which he tallied a career-best 103 tackles (57 solo), including 2.0 sacks, six passes defensed and one interception. Getting the 2020 first-round pick back to full health will be crucial to the performance of Carolina's defensive front.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Goes on IR, season over
Carolina placed Brown (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday. He'll miss the remainder of the 2024 season, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Brown tallied three tackles and played 60 of the Panthers' 66 defensive snaps in Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints in Week 1 but emerged from the contest with a meniscus injury. He's expected to undergo a procedure to address the injury, and the fact that the Panthers are ruling him out for the season suggests that he'll be getting a full repair of the meniscus rather than a partial meniscectomy. A 2020 first-round draft pick, Brown earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season when he suited up for all 17 games while registering 103 tackles, two sacks, one interception and six passes defensed.

Panthers' Derrick Brown: Expected to undergo knee surgery
Brown (knee) is feared to have suffered a season-ending meniscus injury during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Brown's injury is among the worst pieces of news the Panthers could receive after the Week 1 rout. Following the offseason departure of Brian Burns, Brown was expected to anchor the front seven after signing a four-year, $96 million contract extension. Brown will require knee surgery, but a timeline for his return won't become clear until doctors can go in and determine the severity of the damage. It sounds inevitable that the Panthers will soon rule Brown out for a Week 2 tilt versus the Chargers, which could thrust Jayden Peevy and LaBryan Ray into expanded roles.
