While Dowell will make his way back to New Orleans, the details on his ACL injury recovery remains unknown. He'll likely assume a depth role at linebacker, as he hasn't seen the NFL field since the 2022 season with the Saints.

Contrary to the report early Wednesday saying his knee injury wasn't expected to be serious, Dowell has been placed on IR. He will now miss the entire year unless he reaches an injury settlement with New Orleans and is waived.

Dowell (knee) left Saints camp Wednesday with a knee injury, Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com reports.
The injury is said to not be serious, but nonetheless, the Michigan State product will most likely miss some time. Last year, the 26-year-old appeared in all 17 games for New Orleans, mainly as a special teamer. Expect Dowell to continue playing on special teams and compete for a backup linebacker spot ahead of the coming season.
