Trumaine Johnson: Signs in Carolina
The Panthers signed Johnson to the practice squad Saturday, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.
Johnson's 2019 season ended early due to injuries to both ankles, but he appears to be healthy now and will look to earn a spot on the active roster in the near future. Over seven games with the Jets last year, Johnson averaged 45.9 snaps per contest and recorded 25 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception.

Trumaine Johnson: Visiting Carolina
The Panthers hosted Johnson (ankle) for a tryout this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Johnson, who has been a free agent since being cut by the Jets back in March, could be an option to provide the Panthers with veteran depth at cornerback. He played seven games in New York last season before injuries to both ankles led to his placement on season-ending IR.

Trumaine Johnson: Officially hits waiver wire
The Jets will officially release Johnson (ankle) on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Reports surfaced more than a week ago that the Jets planned to cut Johnson, but the team will apparently wait until after the NFL's "legal tampering" period ends at 4 p.m. ET before formally parting ways with the cornerback. Johnson was a major disappointment for the Jets after inking a five-year, $72.5 million contract in March 2018. In his two seasons with the club, Johnson appeared in 17 games and recorded 65 tackles, seven pass breakups and five interceptions.

Trumaine Johnson: Cut by Jets
The Jets are releasing Johnson (ankle) on Monday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Signed to a five-year, $72.5 million contract during the 2018 offseason, Johnson was ineffective in his first season with the Jets and benched/injured in the second campaign. His release leaves behind a significant dead cap hit from his signing bonus, but he didn't have any guarantees remaining on the contract after 2019. The 30-year-old cornerback was placed on injured reserve back in November, bothered by injuries to both ankles. It isn't clear if Johnson ever had surgery.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Expected to be cut
Johnson (ankle) likely will be released in the coming weeks, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports.
Johnson's five-year, $72.5 million contract has been a disaster for the Jets, with his 2018 campaign marked by poor play and 2019 defined by hamstring and ankle injuries. The latter issue forced him to injured reserve in November, and the Jets now figure to cut the cornerback even though they'll absorb a $12 dead cap hit. A release at least gets Johnson's $11 million base salary off the books, and the Jets might be able to spread out the dead cap charge if the NFL and NFLPA agree to a new collective bargaining agreement this spring.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Lands on injured reserve
Johnson (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
Johnson sat out Sunday's loss to the Dolphins and will now miss the remainder of the season. The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $72.5 million deal with the Jets in March 2018, but he's played in only 17 total games and could be cut at the end of the season, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, though the move would still leave $12 million in dead cap for 2020.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Ruled out for Week 9
Johnson (ankles) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Johnson was limited to just 13 snaps Week 8 before departing with injuries to both of his ankles. After being unable to log any practice time this week, he'll sit out Sunday, ceding time to Nate Hairston and Brian Poole at cornerback.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Bothered by both ankles
Johnson won't practice Wednesday due to injuries to both ankles, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Johnson left this past Sunday's game with an ankle injury, but it turns out he's bothered by both his ankles. The severity of each injury is unsettled, but this could be difficult to overcome by Week 9's matchup against the Dolphins. Expect his practice status to be closely monitored for the rest of the week, and it'll be a good sign if he can log a limited practice Thursday or Friday.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Gets hurt Sunday
Johnson (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Johnson came into the game with an ankle issue, and it's unclear if he's dealing with the same problem or if it's a new injury. The veteran was forced out late in the second quarter, and as long as he's out, look for Brian Poole and Nate Hairston to see an increase in snaps.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Ready to rock
Johnson (ankle) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Johnson popped up on the injury report Friday with the ankle issue but, as evidenced by this news, will be ready for Week 8. The veteran has been an every-down player for the Jets since Week 4, so expect Johnson to continue that role now that he's healthy.

Jets' Trumaine Johnson: Dealing with ankle injury
Johnson is questionable for Sunday's game at Jacksonville with an ankle injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson was added to Friday's injury report as a limited participant, leaving his availability for Week 8 up in the air. The veteran cornerback was benched and played only 12 total defensive snaps during the second and third games of the season, but he's been an every-down player coming out of the Jets' Week 4 bye.
