Panthers' Wes Horton: Could see increased reps in 2018
Horton has an opportunity to see an expanded role on defense in 2018, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charolette Observer reports.
Horton is entering his sixth season, all of which have been with the Panthers. The 28-year-old played 360 defensive snaps in 2017, but after the release of Charles Johnson this offseason, the Panthers will need someone to take on more reps in a rotation with veteran Julius Peppers. If he impresses during training camp, Horton could be line for a major uptick in his workload.

Panthers' Wes Horton: One preseason appearance
Horton started Thursday's preseason finale against the Steelers.
Horton played in all four of the Panthers' exhibition contests despite spraining his right wrist to start camp. While that injury initially forced him to wear a cast, Horton still suited up at every opportunity, knowing his roster spot was under threat. Although he only managed two tackles, both in the all-important third preseason game, Horton's physicality in the run game has earned him a depth role for the Panthers the past three seasons, so his familiarity with the team could work in his favor.
