Top Jerel Worthy News

  • Jerel Worthy: Waived by Tampa Bay

Worthy was waived by the Bucs on Monday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Worthy inked a deal with Tampa Bay back in August. Given the Bucs' need elsewhere, Worthy's depth contributions along the defensive line became expendable.

  • Buccaneers' Jerel Worthy: Signs with Tampa

Worthy signed a contract with the Buccaneers on Monday, Jenna Laine of ESPN reports.

Worthy adds depth to a Buccaneers defensive line that's experiencing a rash of injuries.

  • Jerel Worthy: Released by Bills

The Bills opted to cut Worthy on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Worthy is coming off his most productive game of the season, having posted three tackles in Sunday's loss to the Saints. However, the Bills opted to sign defensive lineman DeAndre Coleman on Tuesday to help boost their run defense (Coleman had more size than Worthy), and Worthy was the odd man out. He'll now look for new opportunities elsewhere.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Clears concussion protocol

Worthy passed all phases of the NFL's concussion protocol and is expected to practice Wednesday, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

The Bills' release of DeAndre Coleman earlier this week appeared to signal that the team anticipated Worthy would be able to make his season debut Sunday against the Falcons, and the fact that Worthy has been cleared to practice only adds further credence to that notion. With Marcell Dareus (ankle) expected to be limited at practice Wednesday and at risk of missing the Week 4 contest, Worthy could be thrust into a sizable role right away if he indeed suits up this weekend.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: To miss third straight week

Worthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos.

Worthy has reportedly started to finally see some progress in the concussion protocol, but he's not far enough along yet to be ready for Sunday's game. His absence will leave the Bills particularly short-handed because Marcell Dareus has also been ruled out for Week 3.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Will sit out Sunday

Worthy (concussion) is listed as out for Sunday's matchup with the Panthers.

This will be the second straight game Worthy misses. Adolphus Washington and Cedric Thornton will continue to work as the Bills' depth defensive tackles until Worthy can clear concussion protocol.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Still not practicing

Worthy continues to miss practice due to a concussion, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Worthy missed the Week 1 win over the Jets, and given that he's still not practicing, it's not looking good for the depth defensive lineman's chances of playing this week at Carolina.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Ruled out Sunday

Worthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener against the Jets, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

Worthy is still going through the league's concussion protocol after missing this past week of practice, and it appears as though the Bills already know the defensive tackle won't be symptom-free by the weekend. Adolphus Washington and Cedric Thornton will be the only reserve defensive tackles in Worthy's absence Sunday.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Misses practice again Thursday

Worthy (concussion) was absent from Thursday's practice, Joe Buscaglia of 7 ABC Buffalo reports.

With back-to-back days on the sideline during practice, it's looking like Worthy could be inactive for the season opener Sunday against the Jets. If that's the case, Adolphus Washington and the newly signed Cedric Thornton would be the only reserve defensive tackles available behind starters Marcell Dareus (hip) and Kyle Williams.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Still in concussion protocol

Worthy (concussion) won't practice Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Worthy is set to start the season in a depth role behind Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams at defensive tackle, but it remains to be seen if he'll be cleared for Week 1.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Still not cleared

Worthy remains in the concussion protocol following a hit during Thursday's preseason finale, Joe Buscaglia of 7 ABC Buffalo reports.

Worthy did make the team as a backup defensive tackle and special teams asset, but his availability for Week 1 remains up in the air.

  • Bills' Jerel Worthy: Will not return Thursday

Worthy is being evaluated for a head injury and will not return to Thursday's preseason game against the Lions.

Worthy is expected to back up Kyle Williams (personal) at defensive tackle this season. The severity of his injury is unclear, but he'll have 10 days until a Week 1 matchup with the Jets to recover.
