WR Steve Smith who has battled a foot infection for most of the week, will not dress for the Carolina Panthers Sunday night game at the New York Jets. WR Louis Murphy, acquired from Oakland in a trade just before training camp, will start in Smith’s place.
Smith is one of five Panthers who will not dress for the game. CB Brandon Hogan(knee) and LB Jon Beason (hamstring) will miss their third straight preseason game. Rookie RB Tauren Poole (concussion) will miss his second.
RB Lyndon Rowells (concussion) will miss his first game of the preseason.
