2026 NFL Draft Day 2 recap: Picks, trades, rumors, grades for Rounds 2-3

drafttracker-day2.png
Adam Eargle, CBS Sports design

After the first round wrapped Thursday night, Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft came and went Friday. The second night once again delivered plenty of chaos, as teams worked with less time on the clock to make their selections.

After getting eight minutes per pick in the first round, teams had just seven minutes in the second round and five minutes in the third. With both rounds taking place on Day 2, there were a total of 68 picks, including four compensatory selections awarded earlier this year to the Vikings, Eagles, Steelers and Jaguars.

The first round featured eight trades and several shocking picks (hello, Rams), and Day 2 brought more fireworks, with additional deals and notable selections reshaping rosters across the league.

We tracked every pick as it came in, with plenty of analysis throughout Rounds 2 and 3.

Day 2 of the NFL Draft is over: Jaguars make the final pick

The Jacksonville Jaguars just made the 100th overall pick of the NFL Draft, which also happens to be the final pick of the third round, and they took safety Jalen Huskey out of Maryland.

Now that all the picks are in, you might be wondering how your favorite team did and we've got the answer for that. We're handing out team grades here. If you want to see our specific grades for each pick, you can see our second round grades here and our third round grades here

The final four rounds of the draft will be kicking off tomorrow at noon with the Bills on the clock for the 101st pick.

Steelers select Gennings Dunker at 96th overall

With their final pick of the third round, the Steelers selected offensive lineman Gennings Dunker out of Iowa.

The only reason I'm pointing this out is because he has possibly the best name in the draft. Also, based on his looks, he might be more suited than any other prospect ever to play for the Steelers.

Smart baby picks NFL Draft spot for dad

Former Texas A&M defensive tackle Albert Regis went to the Jaguars with the 81st overall pick and the most impressive part is that his baby daughter SAW IT COMING.

Earlier today, Regis set up four cups with four different NFL team logos on them, he then had his daughter crawl to one of the cups so she could "pick" the team that was going to draft him. She crawled to the Jaguars.

That makes her one-for-one with her draft predictions this year. We might need to check in and see if she wants to do a mock draft next year.

NFL Draft grades for every pick: Steelers, Colts and Falcons get A's for third-round selections

With the second day of the draft almost in the books, here's a reminder that we're grading every single pick. CBS Sports NFL Draft analyst Mike Renner has been grading every pick in the third round. Here's a look at a few teams that recently got an A.

78. Colts: A.J. Haulcy, S, LSU: A. This is the Nick Cross replacement if I've ever seen one. Haulcy is an outstanding box safety who can be Lou Anarumo's version of Vonn Bell in Indy.

79. Falcons: Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia: A. The Falcons may not have added much size in this draft, but they added attitude. Branch is a rocked-up slot receiver who can make plays with the ball in his hands. While he has a relatively small catch radius, he's willing to go over the middle of the field and make plays in traffic.

85. Steelers: Daylen Everette, CB, Georgia: A. Everette has some of the best man cover traits in the entire draft class. Long arms, 4.38 speed, and fluid hips - it's all there. He just never grew into a consistent player over his four years at Georgia (Note: Renner was a fan of the Drew Allar pick, giving it a 'B').

If you want to check out all of Renner's grades from the third round, you can do that here

Life is rough for quarterbacks selected in the third round

The third round of the NFL Draft has NOT been kind to quarterbacks, which is definitely worth pointing out after both Drew Allar and Carson Beck got taken in the third one tonight.

Over the past 13 years, no QB drafted in third round has made a Pro Bowl.

Over all of NFL history, only four quarterbacks drafted in the third round have ended up winning a Super Bowl as a starter (Russell Wilson, Nick Foles, Joe Montana, Jeff Hostetler).

Here are a few quarerabcks who have been taken in the third round over the past 10 years:

2016: Jacoby Brissett, Cody Kesseler
2017: Davis Webb, C.J. Beathard
2018: Mason Rudolph
2019: Will Grier
2020: NONE
2021: Kellen Mond, Davis Mills
2022: Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis, Matt Corral
2023: Hendon Hooker
2024: NONE
2025: Jalen Milroe, Dillon Gabriel

As you can see, it's not a great list. In a wild coincidence, Allar and Beck will both be joining a former third-round QB. Allar will be in a QB room with Rudolph in Pittsburgh while Beck will be with Brissett in Arizona.

Steelers use the 76th pick on Penn State QB Drew Allar

The Steelers still don't know what Aaron Rodgers is going to do, but they decided to draft a quarterback anyway by taking Drew Allar with the 76th overall pick. With the draft in Pittsburgh and the Steelers selecting a QB from Penn State, the pick got some loud cheers from the Steelers' fans in the audience.

This was the perfect spot in the draft for the Steelers to draft a QB and Allar should be in good shape no matter what happens with Rodgers. If Rodgers retires, then Allar could compete with Mason Rudolph and Will Howard for the starting job. On the other hand, if Rodgers returns for another season in Pittsburgh, then Allar can sit behind him for a year and soak up everything the four-time MVP has to offer.

Allar is the fourth QB off the board behind Fernando Mendoza (Raiders), Ty Simpson (Jets) and Carson Beck (Cardinals).

Bears are suddenly collecting tight ends: Chicago adds a tight end at 69th overall

Thanks to Sean McVay, NFL teams are using more 13 personnel, which is where the offense has three tight ends on the field.

Although the Rams made it popular, the Bears used plenty of 13 personnel with Ben Johnson and they're probably going to use it even more after taking Stanford TE Sam Roush with the 69th overall pick. Roush will be joining a tight end room that already includes Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland.

Ben Johnson is definitely going to enjoy drawing up plays for that group.

Lamar Jackson approves of the Ravens' draft so far

The Baltimore Ravens have made two picks so far and it seems that Lamar Jackson likes what he has seen.

The Ravens got some protection for Jackson in the first round by taking offensive guard Vega Ioane at 14th overall. In the second round, the Ravens selected Missouri pass-rusher Zion Young at 45th overall.

A fan was calling Jackson out because he was apparently watching highlights of former Ohio State QB Braxton Miller, and Jackson made sure to let the fan know that he's paying close attention to the draft.

Cardinals finally take a QB: Carson Beck is off the board

The Cardinals might have just found their QB of the future. With the first pick of the third round, Arizona selected Carson Beck. That makes him the third QB taken in the draft behind only Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson.

There was some speculation that the Cardinals might make a play for Simpson in the first round, but instead, they patiently waited until the third round to land Beck.

The Miami (Fla.) quarterback will be landing with a Cardinals team that is dealing with some QB drama right now. The expectation is that Jacoby Brissett will be the starter, but he's been skipping the team's offseason workouts because he wants a raise. Brissett is on the books for just $9.06 million in 2026. The Cards also have Gardner Minshew, who's set to make just $5.75 million.

This is a pretty solid spot for Beck, who will be able to learn from two veterans during his rookie year. And if he takes the team by storm, he might even have a small chance to win the starting job if Brissett continues to stay away from the team.

Beck is the third offensive player that Arizona has selected, joining Jeremiyah Love (third overall) and OG Chase Bisontis (34th overall).

NFL Draft's biggest faller: Why a top 10 prospect has slipped to the third round

We covered this earlier, but we're going to cover it again because Jermod McCoy, who was a top 10 prospect on our big board, was NOT selected in the second round.

The Tennessee cornerback, who was ranked as the SIXTH best player on Mike Renner's big board, is still available as the draft gets ready to head into the third round.

So why did McCoy fall? Jared Dubin might have the answer.

  • McCoy fell to injury issues. McCoy is still available going into Day 2 and that's largely due to his injury red flags. He suffered a torn ACL at the end of the 2024 college football season and did not play in 2025. He also did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, instead only working out and going through drills for teams in the weeks before the draft. What's more, he could be headed for another knee surgery, per NFL Media

Dubin has listed the Raiders, Bengals, Saints, Ravens Vikings as possible landing spots for McCoy.

Dubin wrote a great breakdown of the McCoy situation and you can check it out here.

Rams get Matthew Stafford a weapon in the second round

The Rams pulled off the most shocking pick of the draft on Thursday with the selection of Ty Simpson, but for their first pick on Friday, they did something slightly less shocking. The Rams decided to take Ohio State tight end Max Klare with the 61st overall pick.

That's right, the Rams brought in a weapon for Matthew Stafford. They must have felt about what happened yesterday. Klare is a solid route runner, which should make him a good fit for Sean McVay's offense. McVay used a lot of three tight end sets last season and if he sticks with that in 2026, then Klare should see plenty of action. He was first-team All-Big Ten last season after a year where he caught 44 passes for 448 yards.

Free ketchup alert: Bears draft pick Logan Jones will be getting free ketchup for life

With the 57th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bears decided to take Iowa center Logan Jones, who might actually end up being the biggest winner of the draft and that's mainly because he'll be getting free ketchup for life.

In what might go down as the best draft sponsorship of all-time, Heinz decided to give a lifetime supply of ketchup to the 57th player taken in the draft. The company is based in Pittsburgh and with the draft being held in the Steel City, Heinz decided to go all-in.

Not only will Jones be getting free ketchup, but he'll also be dubbed "Mr. 57" and he'll get a customized jacket that lets everyone know that he was the 57th overall pick.

On a non-ketchup note, this is a huge pick for the Bears. With the unexpected retirement of Drew Dalman this offseason, the Bears are looking for their center of the future and Jones just might be it.

TRADE ALERT: Vikings sending Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles

The Vikings have quietly had Jonathan Greenard on the trade market for a few weeks and a deal is now finally done. Greenard is headed to the Philadelphia Eagles in a deal that involves multiple draft picks.

Here are the terms of the deal (via NFL Network)
Eagles get: Jonathan Greenard, 2027 seventh-round pick (244th)
Vikings get: 2026 third-round pick (98th overall), 2027 third-round pick

As part of the deal, Greenard will be getting a four-year, $100 million extension from the Eagles, according to ESPN. That total includes $50 million in guaranteed money.

This trade makes a lot of sense for an Eagles team that has been trying to add some pass-rushing help after losing several key defensive players this offseason, including Jaelan Phillips and Nakobe Dean.

Greenard has recorded at least 12 sacks in two of his past three seasons, but he struggled in 2025 due to a lingering shoulder injury that caused him to miss several games.

Defense dominating the second round: Only one offensive player taken with the past 14 picks

NFL teams apparently subscribe to the theory that defense wins championships because defensive players have been dominating the middle of the second round.

Starting with the Chiefs' pick at 40th overall, 13 of the past 14 players selected have been on defense.

40. Chiefs: DE R. Mason Thomas
41. Bengals; DE Cashius Howell
42. Saints: DT Christen Miller
43. Dolphins: LB Jacob Rodriguez
44. Lions: DE Derrick Moore
45. Ravens: DE Zion Young
46. Buccaneers:  LB Josiah Trotter
47. Steelers: WR Germie Bernard
48. Falcons: CB Avieon Terrell
49. Panthers: DT Lee Hunter
50. Jets: CB D'Angelo Ponds
51. Vikings: LB Jake Golday
52. Packers: CB Brandon Cisse
53. Colts: Colts: LB CJ Allen

Overall, there have been 21 players taken in the second round and only four have come on offense with De'Zhaun Stribling (49ers), Chase Bisontis (Cardinals), Denzel Boston (Browns) and Germie Bernard (Steelers).

Falcons just reunited two brothers with their second round pick

The Falcons just made one of the most interesting picks of the draft by taking Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell.

The reason this pick is so interesting is because Terrell's brother, AJ Terrell already plays for the Falcons. The elder Terrell brother has been in Atlanta since 2020 when the Falcons made him the 16th overall pick in the draft. Avieon will now be joining his older brother and they're goning to be playing in the same secondary.

The twist in all of this is that A.J. actually didn't want the Falcons to draft Avieon.

"I want to play against him and see him walk on the sideline," A.J. told ESPN earlier this month. "I want to see him play and I want him to have his own story somewhere else. I don't want the narrative to be the Terrell brothers."

Unforutnately for A.J., the narrative IS going to be the Terrell brothers, but I'm sure he'll get over it.

Steelers trade up in second round and finally get a receiver

The Steelers missed out on Makai Lemon during the first round, but they got their consolation prize on Friday by taking Alabama WR Germie Bernard with the 47th overall pick.

The Steelers had the 53rd overall pick, but they traded up to 47th to get Bernard.

Here are the details of the deal:

  • Colts get: 53rd overall pick, 135th, 237th
  • Steelers get: 47th, 249th

Earlier today, CBS Sports NFL writer Bryan DeArdo said that Bernard was someone the Steelers should target.

Here's why DeArdo thought he made sense for the Steelers: "A consistent performer, Bernard caught at least four passes in nine of Alabama's 14 games last season. He also delivered a series of critical catches, including a key touchdown in Alabama's regular-season win at Georgia. Versatility is one of Bernard's best assets, as he can fill a variety of roles."

The Steelers have now used their first two picks on an offensive tackle and a receiver, which makes it feel like they're planning for Aaron Rodgers to come back.

Cowboys make trade with 49ers: Dee Winters headed to Dallas

The Cowboys have spent the draft beefing up their defense and they made an unexpected addition on Friday night by making a trade for 49es linebacker Dee Winters. To get the deal done, the Cowboys are sending a 2026 fifth-round pick to San Francisco (152nd overall).

Winters started all 17 games for the 49ers last season, but he came expendable after the 49ers signed Dre Greenlaw in March. Winters will likely be a solid contributor in Dallas. It seems like he'll be a good fit for new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Bengals make their first pick of the draft: Cincinnati goes back to the Texas A&M well

Last year, the Bengals used their first pick on Texas A&M pass-rusher Shemar Stewart, and although that hasn't quite worked out just yet, they decided to go back to the Texas A&M well any way.

With their first pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bengals selected Stewart's former teammate, Cashius Howell. The pass-rusher was the SEC defensive player of the year in 2025 after a season where he recorded 11.5 sacks.

Howell will now join a Bengals defensive line that includes fellow newcomers in Boye Mafe, Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen.

Chiefs make their third pick and take their third defensive player

Before the draft, there was some speculation that the Chiefs might add some offensive help with their first few picks, but instead, they're going all defense. With the 39th overall pick, Kansas City decided to take Oklahoma pass-rusher R. Mason Thomas.

That means the Chiefs are now 3-for-3 when it comes to drafting defensive players. The Chiefs opened up their draft by taking CB Mansoor Delane at sixth overall and then they followed that up by taking DL Peter Woods at 29th. Now, Thomas will be joining that duo in Kansas City.

Browns become first team in 30 YEARS to pull off this drafting feat after making second-round pick

The Cleveland Browns have decided to totally revamp their receiving room. Not only did they use the 24th overall pick on receiver KC Concepcion, but they also used their second-round pick on a receiver by taking Denzel Boston.

Adding two receivers this early in the draft might sound crazy, but it kind of makes sense for the Browns. Last season, only one wide receiver finished with more than 350 yards and that was Jerry Jeudy, who tallied 602. Concepcion and Boston have different skill sets, so they should both fit in nicely.

With the pick, the Browns are now the first team since the 1996 Jets to take two receivers in the top 40.

Raiders surprisingly go defense in second round

After taking Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick, there was a lot of speculation that the team would use their second-round pick to bring in some help for their new quarterback, but that didn't happen. Instead, the Raiders decided to take S Treydan Stukes.

Although the Raiders didn't take an offensive player, this pick still makes plenty of sense. Safety might have been their biggest need outside of quarterback, so Stukes will fill a big hole on the roster.

Giants use second-round pick to add a cornerback

The Giants are doing their best to beef up their defense. After taking Arvell Reese at fifth overall on Thursday, they followed that up by taking Colton Hood at 37th overall.

The Tennessee cornerback was viewed as one of the top available players going into the second round. When you look at the Giants defense, former first-round pick Deonte Banks hasn't quite lived up to the hype, so New York is clearly looking for someone they can pair with Paulson Adebo.

Hood did a solid job as the Tennessee's No. 1 corner against elite competition in the SEC. Hood has a nose for the ball and he proved that in 2025 with two defensive touchdowns. The Giants might have found their guy.

Texans make a trade with the Raiders: Houston moves up to 36th overall for a defensive tackle

The Texans traded up in the first round to get Keylan Rutledge, and now, they're trading up again.

Houston just made a deal with the Raiders that looks like this:

  • Texans get: 36th overall, 117th overall
  • Raiders get: 38th overall, 91st overall

With their newly acquired pick, the Texans ended up taking DT Kayden McDonald. If defense wins championships, then the Texans might have to be considered a favorite to win it all in 2026 because they already had one of the best defenses in the NFL and it just got nastier with the addition of the Ohio State defensive tackle.

Bills finally make a draft pick!

The Bills went into the draft with the 27th overall pick, but they traded down three times and didn't end up making a pick last night. On Friday, they finally made their first pick at 35th overall and they ended up taking Clemson's T.J. Parker.

The Bills have had some injury problems and depth issues at linebacker, so getting Parker here definitely makes some sense. Parker had 39 tackles for a loss over the past three seasons, which was the second-most in FBS over that span.

Parker will be joining a linebacker room that also includes newcomer Bradley Chubb.

Cardinals add an offensive lineman at 34th overall

The Cardinals opened up the draft last night by taking Jeremiyah Love at third overall and they followed that up in the second round by taking a player who can block for love in Chase Bisontis.

The Cardinals signed Isaac Seumalo during the offseason and he's expected to fill one guard spot and Bisontis will likely be expected to start on the other side as a rookie. One notable fact about Bisontis is that he gave up ZERO sacks last season while playing for Texas A&M in a tough ACC.

49ers keep their pick: San Francisco takes WR De'Zhaun Stribling with opening pick of second round

The 49ers opened up the second round of the NFL Draft with a surprise by taking De'Zhaun Stribling with the 33rd overall pick.

The Ole Miss receiver was 19th ranked receiver on our big board here at CBS Sports and the 120th ranked overall player. At ESPN, he was the 15th ranked receiver 76th overall, so this is definitely a surprise.

Of course, it's not a surprise that the 49ers ended up drafting a new weapon for Kyle Shanahan's offense. With George Kittle coming back from a torn Achilles and Brandon Aiyuk leaving the team, the 49ers needed to add some receiving talent and they did that Stribling.

The Ole Miss receiver ran a blazing fast 40 time (4.36) at the combine and he could end up being a great fit for Kyle Shanahan's offense. Shanahan loves to get his receivers in space and if you put Stribling, he becomes a home turn threat.

One upside for Stribling is that he'll be able to learn under veteran receiver Mike Evans, who was signed by the 49ers in free agency.

NFL Draft QBs: Best team fits for mid-round quarterbacks heading into the second round

We only saw two quarterbacks go off the board during the first round on Thursday and there's a good chance that we could see a few more get taken tonight.

With that in mind, we decided to come up with some good fits for each remaining QB. Let's check out Garrett Podell's list:

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier to the Jets
Podell's breakdown: The Jets have veteran Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, with Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe behind him. They also feature two top-11-pick offensive tackles in Olu Fashanu (left tackle) and Armand Membou (right tackle). That's an ideal setup for Nussmeier, who can become more dangerous with extra time in the pocket

NDSU QB Cole Payton to the Dolphins
Podell's breakdown: The Dolphins have a toolsy starter in Malik Willis, so Payton could learn behind him while fitting a similar stylistic mold. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, a branch of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, runs a scheme that could help Payton develop as a processor. With Miami rebuilding, the team likely won't mind his learning curve.

Arkansas QB Taylen Green to the Packers
Podell's breakdown: The Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur are an perfect fit for Green. Green Bay has successfully developed Jordan Love behind Aaron Rodgers and Malik Willis behind Love. With LaFleur's Shanahan-McVay system, this would be a strong environment for Green to refine his game and flash his upside

Podell has a few more landing spots and you can check them out here
