With Jets quarterback Geno Smith expected to miss the first four weeks of the season, the team announced Wednesday they signed veteran quarterback Matt Flynn.
Flynn is expected to compete with Bryce Petty and Jake Heaps for the backup role behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Flynn was released by the Patriots on Aug. 10.
