Free agent running back Ryan Mathews signed a three-year deal with the Eagles, the team announced. The team did not disclose the money, but reports indicate Mathews will receive $11.5 million.

Mathews joined Philly despite the team also landing DeMarco Murray, the reigning NFL rushing leader. Earlier reports suggested Mathews might back out of his agreement once it became clear the Eagles also were signing Murray.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called Murray and Mathews an "incredible duo," but the crowded backfield also includes Darren Sproles and Chris Polk

An ankle injury limited Mathews to six games with San Diego last season, but in 2013 he rushed for 1,255 yards.
