Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) worked on the side at Thursday's practice, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.

Typically, such a workload is accompanied by a designation of "did not practice," but the Cardinals will clear up Ellington's activity level in short order.

While he's expected to sit out Sunday against San Francisco, any deviation from a DNP would be an encouraging sign and throw a wrench into the running back pecking order, which currently places Chris Johnson in a workhorse role with David Johnson spelling the veteran.
