Williams has rejoined Boston ahead of Wednesday's game against the Thunder, but he's unlikely to be featured in the rotation. The rookie second-round pick saw extended run Tuesday in Maine's 130-105 win over the Cleveland Charge, finishing with 13 points (5-9 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-4 FT), nine rebounds, four blocks and one assist in 27 minutes.

Williams will likely be available to Sunday's meeting with the Timberwolves after spending a few days with the G League squad. However, the rookie has seen limited action at the NBA level over the past couple of months, and that is likely to remain the case for the rest of the season. He has been more productive when assigned to the Maine affiliate, for which his average of 10.8 rebounds per game is the highest on the team.

Williams has rejoined the parent club after a solid G League performance in which he tallied 29 points, seven rebounds and five blocks against the Motor City Cruise. The rookie second-rounder latched on with Boston on a one-year, two-way pact this past summer, though he's now been upgraded to a standard deal. The 24-year-old big man has appeared in 13 regular-season games (two starts) so far this season, during which he has averaged 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per contest. Williams is not in the starting lineup for Friday's matchup with the Kings, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports.
Williams was included in the rotation in each of the last five games and started at center in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta while Neemias Queta out due to an illness, but Queta is back and starting Friday. The rookie two-way player doesn't look as though he'll be in line for playing time Friday, as the Celtics list him out for the contest in what's likely a measure to preserve his eligibility while he approaches his limit of 50 active games at the NBA level for the season.

Williams saw plenty of opportunities to make an impact despite being bumped back to a bench role Monday night. The two-way center logged a season-high 26 minutes and contributed across the board, accounting for two of his team's four swats. It's worth noting that Luka Garza (illness) was unavailable Monday, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Williams lose out on some playing time once Garza returns to health.

The rookie second-rounder has spent most of the 2025-26 season in the G League with the Maine Celtics, but he was given the opportunity to start Saturday while Neemias Queta -- who has been battling an illness as of late -- came off the bench. However, Williams played just 10 minutes in his first NBA start and was not on the floor for the entire fourth quarter, so there isn't a glaring need to pick up the Kentucky product off waivers as of yet.

Celtics' Amari Williams: Picked by Boston
Williams was selected by the Celtics with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
After a four-year run at Drexel to begin his collegiate career, Williams delivered a solid two-way performance in his lone season at Kentucky in 2024-25, posting averages of 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 blocks in 22.8 minutes per game while shooting 56.1 percent from the field in 36 contests. While he brings good size at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Williams' lack of foot speed and lateral quickness could hinder him at the NBA level. With the Celtics trading away Kristaps Porzingis and both Luke Kornet and Al Horford uncertain to be retained in free agency, Williams provides much-needed frontcourt depth for the Celtics. However, the Celtics aren't likely to count on him to be a regular contributor at the NBA level as a rookie, as Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com relays that the British-born center will ink a two-way deal and is expected to see most of his playing time in the G League.
