Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Poats 15 points in starting role
Avdija produced 15 points (4-9 FG, 6-6 FT, 1-3 3Pt), six rebounds and two assists over 23 minutes in Friday's 124-123 preseason win over the Kings.
Avdija was back in the starting lineup, which is where he's projected to be when the season begins. Although Jerami Grant will be vying for time at the position, the veteran doesn't fit as well into Portland's youth-focused plans, and the team has already invested a lot of capital to retain Avdija. Right now, the job appears to be his to lose.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Starting Friday
Avdija is in the starting lineup for Friday's exhibition against the Kings, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.
Avdija is getting the start ahead of Jerami Grant in this one, which suggests that Grant is headed for a rest day. Joining Avdija in the starting unit will be Jrue Holiday, Shaedon Sharpe, Toumani Camara and Donovan Clingan.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Contributes 14 points from bench
Avdija provided 14 points (4-9 FG, 4-7 FT, 2-5 3Pt), eight rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot over 20 minutes in Wednesday's 129-123 preseason loss to the Warriors.
The fight for minutes among Avdija, Toumani Camara and Jerami Grant will be a familiar refrain throughout the season, and it remains to be seen which direction Chauncey Billups will go. The decision to roll with Grant and Camara over Avdija may be an outlier, and it isn't easy to envision the sixth-year pro riding the bench after making 54 appearances with the first unit last season.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: On bench for preseason opener
Avdija will come off the bench for Wednesday's preseason game against the Warriors, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.
Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups said he'll be trying different lineups throughout the preseason, and Wednesday's starting five doesn't include Avdija. Instead, it'll be Jrue Holiday, Shaedon Sharpe, Toumani Camara, Jerami Grant and Donovan Clingan. Avdija started in each of his final 42 appearances during the 2024-25 regular season.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Returns to court for Israel
Avdija (thumb) scored 12 points in an 88-76 loss to Montenegro during Israel's final EuroBasket preparation game, per EuroHoops.net.
Avdija sat out Portland's final four games of the regular season with a thumb injury, but his presence back on the court this summer indicates he's fully recovered from the issue. The 2020 first-rounder shouldn't have any limitations for training camp this fall, and he's lined up as one of Portland's top playmakers for 2025-26. While he got off to a slow start a year ago, Avdija averaged 23.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 33.6 minutes per game over 20 appearances after the All-Star break in 2024-25.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Unlikely to play Sunday
Avdija (thumb) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Lakers.
Avdija continues to navigate through a right thumb sprain that has sidelined him for the last three games, and the doubtful tag suggests his chances of suiting up for the season finale Sunday are slim at best. If Avdija doesn't play, expect Kris Murray to experience an uptick in minutes once again.

Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija: Questionable to play Sunday
Avdija is questionable for Sunday's game against the Spurs due to a right thumb sprain.
Avdija is coming off one of his best outings of the season Friday after notching 37 points in a 118-113 loss to the Bulls, and the forward, who's been one of the best players for Portland all season long, has recorded at least 30 points in three of his last four games. The questionable tag suggests a decision on his status will be made closer to Sunday's 6 p.m. ET tipoff.
