Nets' Malachi Smith: Returns on another 10-day deal
Smith agreed to a second 10-day contract with the Nets on Wednesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
During his initial 10-day stint with the Nets, Smith averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 19.5 minutes while shooting 50 percent from the field across six appearances. He should continue to handle a depth role in the Brooklyn backcourt for at least the team's next five games.

Malachi Smith: Contract expires
Smith became a free agent Tuesday after his 10-day contract with the Nets expired, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
After signing with Brooklyn on March 14, Smith appeared in each of the Nets' ensuing six games, averaging 6.2 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.8 three-pointers in 19.5 minutes while shooting 50 percent from the field. Brooklyn will have the ability to re-sign the 26-year-old guard to a second 10-day pact or a rest-of-season deal, with any contract likely to be finalized before the team's next game Wednesday at Golden State. If the Nets opt not to re-sign Smith, he'll likely remain with the organization as a member of the G League's Long Island Nets.

Nets' Malachi Smith: Puts up season-high 18 points
Smith ended Sunday's 126-122 loss to the Kings with 18 points (7-9 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), two rebounds, four assists and three steals in 29 minutes.
It was Smith's finest effort since joining the Nets on a 10-day contract last week. Over five appearances for Brooklyn, the 26-year-old has averaged 6.4 points, 2.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 18.6 minutes per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. It remains to be seen if Smith has played well enough to earn another deal with the Nets.

With so many injuries in Brooklyn, Smith is being called up for emergency depth. While with Long Island in the G League, Smith averaged 14.4 points, 5.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals.

Smith signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Trail Blazers on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
An undrafted free agent, Smith will take his chance in Portland and will attempt to impress the front office enough in camp to lay claim to one of the team's two two-way contracts. Smith compiled 8.7 points, 3.7 boards, 1.4 assists and 0.9 steals over 20.8 minutes per game in his lone season with Gonzaga in 2022-23.
