McCain logged 10 points (3-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three assists, two rebounds and one steal over 20 minutes during the G League Delaware Blue Coats' 133-126 loss to the Greensboro Swarm on Thursday.
McCain was assigned to the Blue Coats ahead of Thursday's game as he works up his conditioning while recovering from a knee injury. He didn't have the most efficient night in Thursday's G League outing, but the important thing for the second-year pro is that he's able to increase his workload and not suffer a setback. McCain is set to appear in Saturday's G League rematch against Greensboro.

Cleared to make his season debut after completing his recovery from thumb surgery, McCain showed some rust and made a limited impact during his time on the court. Before he required surgery last December to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, McCain had carved out a significant role during his injury-shortened rookie campaign, averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 three-pointers in 25.8 minutes per game over 23 appearances. However, the 76ers are healthier as a whole in 2025-26 compared to early last season, and the addition of No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe and the eventual return of Paul George (knee) could put a ceiling on McCain's playing time even once he gets further ramped up. Tuesday's game represented the front end of a back-to-back set, so McCain could be a candidate to rest Wednesday in Cleveland after seeing his first game action since Dec. 13, 2024.

After undergoing surgery in late September to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb, McCain has made enough progress in his recovery to return to the court. With Tuesday's game representing the front end of a back-to-back set, McCain could have his minutes monitored in his first game since Dec. 13, 2024, as his rookie campaign was cut short by a torn meniscus in his left knee, which he also had surgically repaired. McCain underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee Dec. 17, 2024. As a result, the promising young rookie's season came to an end. He was expected to make his return to start the 2025-26 campaign, which has now been sidetracked due to the thumb injury. It remains uncertain what the team will do moving forward. McCain played in 23 games during his first NBA season, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from beyond the arc.
