  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Team option picked up

Houston exercised their 2026-27 team option for Thompson on Friday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports. No surprise here, as the Rockets likely viewed this as a formality for one of their franchise building blocks. Thompson's option is valued at $12.3 million. Through four regular-season games, Thompson is averaging 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Posts 18-9-7-2 line in win

Thompson recorded 18 points (7-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and four turnovers in 40 minutes during Wednesday's 139-121 win over Toronto. While Thompson shot it well from beyond the arc throughout the preseason, he still hasn't been able to get any of his three-point looks to fall through the first four games of the year, going 0-10 from distance. The Rockets clearly want him to keep taking those shots to help spread the floor, but there will be some growing pains. On a positive note, this was his first game of the season with multiple steals and more than four rebounds, so he's trending in the right direction.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Struggles with foul trouble in loss

Thompson finished Friday's 115-111 loss to the Pistons with 10 points (2-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 6-10 FT), four rebounds, one assist and two turnovers across 30, foul-plagued minutes. It's been a slow start to the season for Thompson, who dealt with cramping issues in the opener and then foul trouble in this one. He also got clocked in the face by Jalen Duren, which may have put him off-kilter. That said, he'll draw an ideal matchup against the Nets on Monday, so maybe he'll be able to really step into gear during Week 2.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Limited by cramps in loss

Head coach Ime Udoka said postgame that Thompson was dealing with cramping in his calf late in Tuesday's 125-124 double-overtime loss to the Thunder, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. He finished with 18 points (8-17 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block across 39 minutes. Thompson appeared to deal with cramping in the first overtime period and was seen stretching his calf after exiting with 2:58 remaining. He remained on the bench but never checked back into the game. The 22-year-old still finished as Houston's third-leading scorer, though he struggled mightily from beyond the arc. His status will be worth monitoring ahead of Friday's game against the Pistons.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Starting at point guard

Thompson (rest) will start at point guard for Tuesday's Opening Night matchup against the Thunder, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports. After resting in Thursday's preseason finale, Thompson will be back with the starters to open the regular season. Reed Sheppard will come off the bench with the Rockets utilizing a jumbo lineup, but coach Ime Udoka has previously said that his lineups could be fluid based on matchups. Either way, it's clear Thompson is going to have a massive role on both ends of the floor.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Resting Thursday

Thompson (rest) will not suit up for Thursday's preseason finale against the Hawks, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports. The Rockets will be resting seven players for their preseason finale, so expect big minutes for guys like Reed Sheppard and Josh Okogie. Thompson is in no danger of missing opening night, and he'll make for an attractive early-round target during fantasy drafts.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Strong start to preseason

Thompson finished with 11 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three assists, two rebounds, two steals and four turnovers across 26 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason win over Atlanta. With Kevin Durant resting, Houston's offense flowed through Thompson and Alperen Sengun on Monday. Thompson has generated a ton of buzz over the offseason, and he even hit a three-pointer, which is something he focused on during the summer. With increased ball-handling expected in the absence of Fred VanVleet (knee), Thompson finds his ADP rising rapidly in fantasy drafts.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Nears double-double in win

Thompson chipped in 14 points (5-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-6 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and three steals in 36 minutes during Friday's 115-107 win over the Warriors in Game 6 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Thompson came three rebounds shy of a double-double in Friday's win. The defensive-minded guard has played a significant role for Houston during his second season in the league, as he continues to improve as a two-way threat. The 21-year-old is averaging 14.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from deep during the first-round series.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Notches eight stocks in win

Thompson totaled 25 points (8-12 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 8-9 FT), six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and five steals in 35 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 victory over the Warriors in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Thompson logged at least five steals for the second time this season, making life difficult for Stephen Curry and the rest of the Warriors to bring the series to 3-2. Thompson's 25 points tied for his second-most in a game this year. The second-year wing is averaging 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks per game during the first round.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Just misses double-double in loss

Thompson finished with 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-5 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and one steal over 31 minutes during Monday's 109-106 loss to the Warriors in Game 4 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. After three lackluster scoring efforts to begin his first career playoff run, Thompson stepped up his production Monday. The second-year wing is averaging 11.8 points, 6.5 boards, 3.8 assists and 1.3 combined steals and blocks through four games, and the Rockets may need something special from the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft if they're going to avoid elimination in Game 5 on Wednesday.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Muted performance in win

Thompson notched 11 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound and three assists in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 109-94 victory over Golden State in Game 2 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Thompson has been one of the best all-around players for the Rockets during the 2024-25 campaign, but he struggled to have a significant impact in Game 2, finishing with a less-than-stellar stat line. The rising star usually makes his presence felt defensively, which didn't happen Wednesday. However, Houston was still able to come out on top ahead of the series shifting to San Francisco for the next two games.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Nears double-double in loss

Thompson registered eight points (4-9 FG, 0-4 FT), nine rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal over 33 minutes during Sunday's 95-85 loss to Golden State in Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Thompson is one of the most promising young stars on the Rockets, especially in terms of the impact he makes on the defensive end of the floor. However, during the Game 1 loss to the Warriors on Sunday, the defensive-minded forward made more of an impact on the glass, ripping down nine rebounds to go along with eight points and six assists. Unfortunately, it was enough to help Houston hold off Golden State from taking a 1-0 series lead.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Ready to return Sunday

Thompson (rest) is not on the injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Nuggets. The Rockets rested their regular rotation players in the last two contests, but that won't be the case Sunday, because this is the final chance the Rockets will have to log competitive minutes until the playoffs start April 19. As such, Thompson will start and should handle his regular workload in this contest. The second-year combo forward has started in each of his 16 appearances since the All-Star break, averaging 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Will play vs. LAL

Thompson (rest) has been cleared to play in Friday's game against the Lakers. After missing Wednesday's loss to the Clippers for rest purposes, Thompson will be available Friday. The defensive-minded guard is having a strong second season with Houston, averaging 14.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 55.5 percent from the field.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Will not play vs. LAC

Thompson (rest) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Clippers, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports. Thompson will be sidelined Wednesday for rest purposes, as the Rockets start to focus on keeping their best players healthy for the NBA playoffs. Houston will likely lean on Tari Eason and Cam Whitmore to shoulder the load in Los Angeles.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Contributes across the board

Thompson put up 14 points (7-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in 29 minutes during Sunday's 106-96 win over the Warriors. The sophomore wing was a force to be reckoned with on all fronts in the big win, putting up yet another impressive showing in what has been a breakout season. Thompson has averaged 16.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game in 40 outings as a starter this season, compared to just 11.1, 6.6 and 2.2 in 27 games with the second unit.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Logs double-double in return

Thompson contributed 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt), 10 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals over 28 minutes during Thursday's 121-110 victory over Utah. Thompson returned to action after taking a seat to tend his injured ankle, which has kept him out of seven games this month. The second-year pro's mid-range shot was on point in the decisive win, giving the Rockets an offensive shot in the arm as they try to maintain the second seed in the Western Conference. Houston has an upcoming back-to-back set that includes a match against the Lakers on Monday, and Thompson may miss one of those games for injury management.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Available to face Utah

Thompson (ankle) is available for Thursday's matchup against the Jazz, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports. Thompson will return to game action after being a late scratch in Tuesday's win over Atlanta due to left ankle soreness. The 22-year-old has appeared in two outings following a six-game absence due to a sprained left ankle, and he was able to play 30-plus minutes in both of them. Thompson has made six appearances this month, averaging 14.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks across 36.3 minutes per contest.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Questionable for Thursday

Thompson (ankle) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Jazz. Thompson was a late scratch for Tuesday's game against the Hawks due to left ankle soreness, but the questionable tag suggests that he remains day-to-day. If Thompson is unable to give it a go, guys like Tari Eason, Jabari Smith and Dillon Brooks could soak up some of his usage.

  • Rockets' Amen Thompson: Late scratch Tuesday

Thompson won't play in Tuesday's game against the Hawks due to left ankle soreness, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 22-year-old was scratched just before tipoff, and he'll be replaced in the starting five by Tari Eason. Thompson's next chance to play will come Thursday against Utah. Cam Whitmore and Aaron Holiday are also candidates for an uptick in playing time due to Thompson being sidelined.
