The former Nugget continues to adapt well to his new system and teammates. Porter could be in line for career-best numbers in Brooklyn as one of the main pieces in an offense that isn't dominated by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, after he produced 18.2 points, 7.0 boards, 2.5 threes and 2.1 assists over 77 regular-season games in Denver last season.
Porter posted 13 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-3 FT), five rebounds, four assists and a steal across 17 minutes in Saturday's 123-88 preseason win over Hapoel Jerusalem BC.
Porter made the most of his 17 minutes on the court in this preseason win, showing an efficient touch with his shot and putting up solid numbers in other categories. Porter figures to be a key player for the Nets in 2025-26, and if he stays healthy, he should be one of the team's go-to options on offense.
The Nuggets traded Porter and a first-round pick to the Nets for Cameron Johnson on Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Porter appeared in 77 regular-season games in 2024-25, averaging 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists over 33.7 minutes. However, he struggled during the 2025 playoffs, and the Nuggets opted to ship him to Brooklyn in exchange for another sharpshooter. While the move certainly decreases Porter's chances at making the postseason, there should be plenty of shots for the 27-year-old on a rebuilding Nets roster. He'll immediately slot into the starting small forward spot for Brooklyn.
