Celtics' Derrick White: Big defensive effort Sunday
White closed with 15 points (6-18 FG, 3-11 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and four steals across 37 minutes during Sunday's 119-113 loss to the Pistons.
The 31-year-old point guard made an impact on the defensive end, with the four steals being his best showing since May 27, 2024, when he racked up five against the Pacers. White will be one of the engines of the Celtics this season alongside Jaylen Brown, and the former has looked good in that role through three games, averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 boards, 3.7 assists, 3.3 threes, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks.

White had been listed as probable heading into Sunday, so his availability doesn't come as a surprise, though it's still a positive confirmation that the wrist sprain isn't limiting him. White is dealing with a wrist sprain but is trending toward being on the floor. White put up 25 points (7-20 FG, 4-13 3 Pt, 7-7 FT), four assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block across 35 minutes in Wednesday's 117-116 loss to the 76ers.
Wednesday was White's first taste of an expanded offensive role following the departures of Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford in the offseason and losing Jayson Tatum to an Achilles injury for virtually the entire regular season. Although the Celtics were unable to get the victory, White tied with Jaylen Brown in leading the team in points and assists. Fantasy managers should be able to expect this kind of heavy workload from White moving forward.

White generated 33 points (10-23 FG, 6-17 3Pt, 7-9 FT), nine rebounds, six assists and four blocks across 35 minutes of Wednesday's 110-108 preseason win over the Raptors.
White stuffed the stat sheet Wednesday, and he attempted 10 more shots than any other Celtic in the win. While Jaylen Brown (hamstring) played just seven minutes and Sam Hauser rested, White's offensive workload is an encouraging sign for what's ahead with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) sidelined.

White comfortably led the team in shot attempts Wednesday and handled the bulk of the playmaking reps as well. With the Celtics overhauling their roster over the summer, combined with Jayson Tatum's Achilles injury, White is set up to soak up a ton of usage this season in what could be a career-best campaign.
