Top Mike Conley News

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: Outside of rotation

Conley (coach's decision) didn't play during Tuesday's 121-113 loss to the Pistons.

Conley wasn't expected to be a significant part of Boston's Opening Night backcourt mix. The 39-year-old point guard is serving as a veteran presence in the Celtics' locker room.

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: Anticipated to play Tuesday

Conley (rest) is expected to play in Tuesday's game versus the Pistons.

Conley didn't play in Friday's 125-120 preseason overtime victory over the 76ers, the Celtics' final exhibition, though the veteran is in line to suit up Tuesday to begin the 2026-27 campaign against Detroit. Conley most recently averaged 4.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists over 18.4 minutes per contest in 54 regular-season games with the Timberwolves in 2025-26. His role is mostly to provide guidance and leadership to a young, up-and-coming roster, so he will likely be off the floor more often than not. However, Conley could get some minutes intermittently during the year, and he might even make a few appearances as a starter.

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: Not expected to play Friday

Conley is not expected to play against the 76ers on Friday, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Conley is not one of the players Grande listed in either the starting lineup nor who will dress for Friday's preseason finale. Conley should be available for Boston's regular-season opener against Detroit, but what his role and playing time will look like remains to be seen, given that he's projected to work behind Derrick White and Payton Pritchard.

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: Headed to bench

Conley will come off the bench in Saturday's preseason game against the 76ers, Sean Grande of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Conley started in Thursday's exhibition with Derrick White (rest) unavailable, but White is back and starting, so Conley will return to a reserve role. The 38-year-old veteran will provide some emergency depth for the Celtics at the point guard position this season, but he's not expected to have a significant role in the rotation.

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: Starting versus Cavaliers

Conley will start in Thursday's preseason game against Cleveland, Bobby Krivitsky of Forbes.com reports.

Conley signed a one-year deal with the Celtics in July and will get the start in Boston's first preseason game of the 2026-27 campaign. The 2007 No. 4 overall pick started in 15 games for the Timberwolves in 2025-26, averaging 7.5 points, 3.9 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals over 24.1 minutes per contest in those appearances.

  • Celtics' Mike Conley: To join Boston

Conley will join the Celtics on a one-year deal, Shams Charania of ESPN reports Wednesday.

Conley will become the 14th player in NBA history to reach 20 seasons. The Celtics currently have Derrick White and Payton Pritchard on their depth chart at point guard, so Conley will be penciled in as the third string. During the 2025-26 regular season with Minnesota, Conley averaged 4.5 points and 2.9 assists in 18.4 minutes per contest.

  • Timberwolves' Mike Conley: Plans on playing next season

Conley recorded six points (2-3 FG, 2-3 3Pt), four assists and three steals over 18 minutes during Friday's 139-109 loss to the Spurs in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

Conley's postseason run ended with a whimper, as the veteran point guard failed to score in double digits for the fifth consecutive game. He averaged career lows in points, assists and minutes during the regular season, but he told reporters during Saturday's press conference that he "might've proven to myself I can play a little longer." Conley will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and it remains to be seen whether he opts to return to Minnesota or signs with another team.

  • Timberwolves' Mike Conley: Slotted to bench

Conley won't start Sunday's Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Spurs.

Conley has started the last five games, but he will come off the bench with Ayo Dosunmu entering the first five Sunday. Conley played just four minutes in Game 3 and 16 minutes in Game 2 despite starting both contests.

  • Timberwolves' Mike Conley: Fares well in Game 1

Conley amassed 12 points (4-8 FG, 4-7 3Pt), two rebounds and six assists across 24 minutes during Monday's 104-102 victory over the Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

With Donte DiVincenzo (Achilles) out and Anthony Edwards playing through a knee injury, Conley is likely to maintain a key role for the duration of the postseason. Over his last two outings, he's posted averages of 9.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per contest.

  • Timberwolves' Mike Conley: Stepping into starting five

Conley is starting Monday's Game 5 of the Western Conference first-round series against the Nuggets.

Conley was forced into action in Game 4 after both Donte DiVincenzo (Achilles) and Anthony Edwards (knee) went down, and he'll presumably handle point-guard duties going forward. Conley didn't see much action through the first three games of the series, but he turned in a decent all-around line off the bench in Game 4 with five points, one rebound, four assists and two steals in 21 minutes.
