Top Mets News

  • Mets' Starling Marte: On bench after three straight starts

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Marte had served as the Mets' designated hitter in each of the last three games, but he'll cede those duties to Pete Alonso in the series finale in Atlanta. Brandon Nimmo (neck) will remain on the bench for a fourth game in a row, but assuming that Nimmo doesn't require a stint on the injured list, Marte will likely be limited to a short-side platoon role heading into the upcoming week.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Remaining on bench Sunday

Nimmo (neck) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Nimmo will miss out on a fourth straight start and is viewed as day-to-day while he continues to manage a stiff neck. With Nimmo on the bench, Jeff McNeil will step in as the Mets' starting left fielder Sunday.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Out again due to sore hand

Torrens (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Torrens will miss out on a fourth consecutive start while he manages a sore left hand, but the injury hasn't been considered serious enough for the Mets to call up a third catcher from the minors. Hayden Senger will get the nod behind the dish, but Torrens is expected to be available off the bench and could re-enter the starting nine as soon as Monday's game against the Phillies.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Stays hot with two homers

McNeil went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 9-2 win over Atlanta.

McNeil opened the scoring, belting a three-run shot in the third inning, then extended the Mets lead with another long ball in the ninth, giving him 12 homers on the season and his fourth multi-hit performance in his last seven games. After going 33 games without a home run, McNeil has now gone deep three times in his last three starts. The Veteran is now slashing .261/.351/.462 with 44 RBI, 35 runs scored and two stolen bases through 92 games this year.

  • Mets' Mark Vientos: Continues surge with two homers

Vientos went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 9-2 win over Atlanta.

The 25-year-old slugger had arguably his best game of the season on Saturday, going deep in the seventh and the ninth inning, giving him 11 homers and his first three-hit game of the year. Vientos has been swinging a hot bat over his last six games, going 9-for-24 (.375) with four homers and nine RBI in that span. The third baseman is starting to resemble the hitter who tallied 27 home runs across 111 games just a year ago.

  • Mets' Clay Holmes: Logs first quality start since June

Holmes (11-6) earned the win over Atlanta on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings.

The right-hander retired eight of the first 10 batters he faced before giving up both of his runs in the fourth inning, but he quickly regrouped with back-to-back perfect innings to steady his outing and notch his first quality start since June 7. Holmes leaned on his sinker to generate weak contact and recorded his second straight win, suggesting he may be regaining some momentum after a volatile stretch in July. Over his last six starts, the 32-year-old has produced a 4.08 ERA with a 23:12 K:BB across 28.2 innings, and he'll look to carry Saturday's progress into his next turn against Miami.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Battling hand soreness

Torrens has been dealing with soreness in his catching hand but is available off the bench Saturday against Atlanta, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports.

Torrens was surprisingly held out of the lineup Saturday for the third straight game, but it turns out his absence is due to soreness in his left hand. While he'll be available off the bench Saturday, Hayden Senger will draw another start behind the plate.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Idle again Saturday

Nimmo (neck) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Nimmo isn't part of the lineup for a third straight game, with Starling Marte patrolling left field in his place. Nimmo went through pregame warmups before a final assessment was made on his availability, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports.

  • Mets' Frankie Montas: Shut down for season

Montas' UCL injury in his right elbow is season-ending, and Tommy John surgery is being considered, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports Saturday.

Montas was placed on the injured list earlier Saturday with a UCL injury that manager Carlos Mendoza called "pretty significant." At this point, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but the Mets have already ruled him out for the remainder of 2025. Montas is likely to undergo some sort of corrective procedure, and Tommy John surgery is a possibility.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Still idle

Torrens is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Torrens will yield to Hayden Senger behind the plate for a third straight game. It's a rather surprising development considering Torrens was the favorite to take over the starting catcher role while Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is sidelined. Torrens started the first two games sans Alvarez. Torrens is slashing .210/.275/.299 in 233 plate appearances this season.

  • Mets' Cedric Mullins: Resting Saturday

Mullins is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Despite Atlanta sending right-hander Cal Quantrill to the hill, Mullins will get the night off Saturday, yielding his spot in center field to Tyrone Taylor. Mullins had started 14 consecutive games, going 14-for-51 (.275) with four doubles, a triple and a home run during that stretch.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Starting Saturday

McNeil (shoulder) is playing second base and batting fifth Saturday against Atlanta.

McNeil was held out of the lineup in back-to-back games due to soreness in his right shoulder. After being available off the bench Friday, he makes his return to the starting nine Saturday. McNeil has nine hits, including three doubles and a homer, in his last 22 at-bats.

  • Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Summoned from Syracuse

The Mets recalled Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.

Brazoban will rejoin the Mets bullpen Saturday, taking Frankie Montas' (elbow) spot as Montas heads to the injured list. Brazoban has a 3.83 ERA and 51:26 K:BB across 51.2 MLB innings this season. He's likely to be used in low-leverage scenarios.

  • Mets' Frankie Montas: Back on injured list

The Mets placed Montas on the 15-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 22, due to a right elbow UCL injury.

Montas didn't make his 2025 debut until late June after suffering a lat strain in spring training. Two months later, Montas is headed back to the injured list with an unspecified injury to his UCL. The 32-year-old was recently moved to the bullpen and hadn't pitched since Aug. 15. The Mets recalled Huascar Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

  • Mets' Hayden Senger: Drives in three Friday

Senger went 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta.

Called back up to the majors earlier in the week, Senger made his second straight start Friday and contributed to a 12-run eruption by the Mets offense with run-producing singles in the second and eighth innings. Luis Torrens will handle the majority of the work behind the plate while Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is sidelined once again, but Senger could see steady playing time if he keeps contributing with his bat -- all four of his RBI on the season have come in the last two games, and Torrens has a weak .186/.230/.214 slash line in 74 plate appearances since the beginning of July.

... See More ... See Less
  • Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Three hits in Friday's start

Taylor went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta.

Getting the start in left field and batting seventh, Taylor joined in a 21-hit, 12-run barrage by the Mets. The veteran outfielder has started the last two games with Brandon Nimmo (neck) unavailable, but prior to that Taylor hadn't gotten a plate appearance since Aug. 5, as the acquisition of Cedric Mullins relegated him to a bench role. Roster depth wasn't the only reason for Taylor's reduced playing time -- he'd gone just 2-for-28 since the All-Star break before Friday's performance. Once Nimmo is clear to return, expect Taylor to once again be a spare part in the New York outfield.

  • Mets' Cedric Mullins: Homer short of cycle Friday

Mullins went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta.

It took him a few games to get adjusted to his new team after being traded by the Orioles at the deadline, but Mullins is finding his groove with the Mets. The center fielder has hit safely in five straight games, and over his last 12 contests he's slashing .304/.353/.500 with six extra-base hits (four double, a triple and a homer), one steal, six runs and six RBI.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Swipes two bags in win

Lindor went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Friday's win over Atlanta.

The shortstop stayed hot as the Mets' leadoff hitter, extending his hitting streak to 10 games -- a stretch in which he's batting a stunning .512 (22-for-43) with four homers, four steals, eight RBI and 12 runs. Lindor's surge has pushed him back up to a .797 OPS on the season, and he sits three stolen bases away from his third straight 25-25 campaign.
