Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Rehabbing in Triple-A
Song (oblique) has gone 3-for-7 with two RBI through two rehab games with Triple-A El Paso.
Song aggravated an oblique issue in early March and opened the season on the 10-day IL. However, the South Korean utility man seems to be doing well given that he's been able to both hit and play the field with El Paso. Song appears to be on track to be activated by mid-April, though he probably won't be an everyday player while with the big-league club.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Officially placed on IL
The Padres placed Song (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Song remains on the mend from the right oblique strain that he aggravated in March. He'll open the season on the IL and can make his MLB debut as soon as April 1, but MLB.com relays that he's trending toward a mid-April return. Song was able to play in a minor-league game on the back fields of camp this past Sunday, so he could be ready to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso when the season gets underway this weekend.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Expected to open season on IL
Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Saturday that Song will open the 2026 regular season on the injured list due to a right oblique strain.
Song suffered an oblique injury during batting practice in January and aggravated the issue in March. He's progressed enough in his recovery to hit in a cage and could start seeing live at-bats in the coming days, but it looks like the South Korean slugger will open the season on the Padres' IL, which would free up a roster spot for Ty France to make San Diego's Opening Day roster.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Going through hitting progression
Padres manager Craig Stammen said Sunday that Song (oblique) has resumed swinging a bat, per 97.3 The Fan.
Stammen mentioned that Song "took some swings...off the tee" Friday and that he would subsequently continue a hitting progression. The manager also indicated that the team hopes to get Song into some games before the end of spring training, though even in that case it's not certain that the South Korean slugger will be ready for Opening Day. Song initially hurt his oblique in January and then aggravated the issue in early March, so San Diego is likely to be cautious in the pacing of his recovery schedule.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Could open season on IL
Song (oblique) has yet to resume swinging a bat and hasn't been cleared to participate in fielding drills, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
The Padres have made it clear that they intend to slow play Song's recovery in an effort to ensure the issue doesn't pop up again later this season. "We've got to play that injury really cautious," stated manager Craig Stammen. "Because he had it, came back, got it again. It's just one of those things -- we can't have that happen the whole year. We've got to nip it in the bud right now." Cassavell points out that Opening Day is only two weeks away, and the fact that Song has only received treatment since aggravating the oblique injury is cause for concern.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Aggravates oblique
Song was removed from Thursday's Cactus League game against the Mariners with right oblique tightness, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Manager Craig Stammen said after Thursday's contest that Song's removal was precautionary, as the Padres didn't want to risk further damage to the 29-year-old's oblique, which he originally injured in January. Song may take a break from Cactus League action for a couple days, but his Opening Day availability doesn't currently seem to be at risk.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Overcomes oblique injury
Song is slated to make his Cactus League debut in the coming days after recovering from an oblique injury he suffered while taking batting practice in January, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Song took his first live batting practice Thursday and said through an interpreter that he's "just waiting for a green light to play in a game." After primarily playing third base in Korea, Song is slated to fill a utility role with the Padres, seeing action at shortstop, second base and left field in addition to the hot corner.

Padres' Sung-Mun Song: Projected for utility role
The Padres expect Song to be used in a utility role this season, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Inked to a four-year, $15 million contract in December, Song primarily played third base during his time with the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization. However, he also has ample experience at second and first base, and the Padres will try him out in the outfield, as well. Additionally, Song will compete with Miguel Andujar for playing time at designated hitter.
