  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Earns quality start

Cecconi didn't factor into the decision against the Rangers on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three over six innings. He did not issue a walk.

Both runs Cecconi surrendered came via the long ball, as Rowdy Tellez took him deep in the fifth inning and Wyatt Langford followed with a solo shot in the sixth. Home runs have been a consistent issue for Cecconi, who has now surrendered 19 homers across 96 innings this season. Despite the flaw, the right-hander has provided steady innings for Cleveland, and will carry a 4.41 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 79:26 K:BB into his next scheduled outing against the Rays.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Ambushed by Atlanta

Cecconi (5-6) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 4.2 innings.

Cecconi got through a scoreless first inning but struggled thereafter. The biggest blow to his stat line came on a three-run homer by Michael Harris in the fifth. Cecconi failed to make it through five frames for the second straight start following a streak of six consecutive outings of six-plus innings. He's been particularly hurt by the long ball of late, serving up 11 homers across his past 52.2 frames. On the season, his 1.7 HR/9 is the eighth-worst figure among MLB hurlers who have thrown at least 80 innings.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Suffers fifth loss

Cecconi (5-5) took the loss Sunday against the White Sox, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk over three innings. He struck out four.

The 26-year-old righty struggled in this short 68-pitch outing, as he conceded multiple homers for the first time in his last four starts. Over his past three previous appearances, Cecconi pitched well, tossing 19 frames with a 3.32 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB. He yielded both long balls in the first, with Lenyn Sosa popping a two-run homer and Colson Montgomery knocking a solo shot. Cecconi will carry a 4.11 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 73:24 K:BB across 85.1 innings into his next start, which currently lines up to be at home against Atlanta next weekend.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Settles for quality start Monday

Cecconi didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Mets, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out six.

Cecconi blanked the Mets through five scoreless frames to begin his outing, but a Pete Alonso three-run homer in the sixth inning left a considerable dent on the hurler's ledger. The right-hander settled for a quality start, his fifth in his last six appearances, and he's now tossed at least five innings in all but two of his 14 starts on the year. Cecconi owns a quality 3.72 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 69:23 K:BB over 82.1 innings, and he should carry plenty of streaming appeal this weekend on the road against the last-place White Sox.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Goes seven strong in no-decision

Cecconi did not factor into the decision in Monday's 8-6 loss to the Rockies, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over seven innings.

Cecconi threw 64 of 98 pitches for strikes and limited the Rockies to just two extra-base hits despite allowing 12 hard-hit balls. The 26-year-old closes out July with four quality starts in five outings and has now held opponents to three earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 13 starts this season. He'll take a 3.77 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 63:22 K:BB across 76.1 innings into a road matchup with the Mets early next week.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Six strong innings vs. Baltimore

Cecconi didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out two.

Cecconi was able to work at least six innings in his fourth consecutive start, though the two punchouts did tie a season low. The 26-year-old right-hander has also hurled at least six frames while conceding two runs or fewer on four occasions over his last six outings. Cecconi has put together a steady 3.76 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 60:20 K:BB over 69.1 frames, and he's in line to carry plenty of streaming appeal next week at home versus the last-place Rockies.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Gives great length in win

Cecconi (5-4) went 8.1 innings to earn the win, allowing six runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out two, during Friday's 8-6 victory over the Athletics.

Cecconi was solid through eight innings, allowing just three runs on five hits, before running into a bit of trouble in the ninth inning. It's possible that he just ran out of gas -- it was the longest the 26-year-old has been asked to pitch all season long -- but he did get the win and saved the Guardians bullpen from too much usage. His streak of seven starts in a row allowing three or fewer runs is over, but working that deep into the game is an encouraging sign regardless. The right-hander is scheduled to make his second start of the second half next Wednesday against the Orioles.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Fans season-high nine in win

Cecconi (4-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Astros, giving up two runs on five hits two walks in seven-plus innings. He struck out nine.

Cecconi was able to contain a hot Astros team, setting a season high in strikeouts during a quality start. The 26-year-old right-hander tossed at least six innings for only the fourth time among his 10 outings, and Wednesday also represented the seventh time this season that he threw at least five innings while surrendering two runs or fewer. Cecconi will bring a solid 3.44 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB through his first 55 innings into the All-Star break, and he should maintain a rotation spot at least until Shane Bieber (elbow) is ready to make his season debut.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Takes loss despite allowing two runs

Cecconi (3-4) was saddled with a loss after throwing six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five, during Friday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers.

Cecconi rebounded from his second start of under five innings his last time out to the tune of six innings of two-run ball against one of the best lineups in MLB. The 26-year-old allowed two home runs, the second straight start in which he's allowed a long ball, but kept the Guardians in the game and gave them a chance to win. The right-hander's ERA is down to 3.56, lowest among all Guardians starting pitchers, with the caveat being he's made only eight appearances so far. Cecconi's last scheduled start before the break lines up to come against the Astros on the road next week.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Falls short of five frames Saturday

Cecconi allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against St. Louis on Saturday.

Cecconi served up a leadoff homer to Brendan Donovan in the first inning but then settled down and held a 6-1 lead entering the fifth. The right-hander got two quick outs in that frame, but he then gave up a walk, a double and a two-run single and was subsequently given the hook. It was just the second time in eight starts this season that Cecconi hasn't completed five innings, and the outing marked the first time through five appearances in June that he's given up more than two earned runs. The 26-year-old missed the first part of the season due to an oblique strain, but he's been fairly effective since making his season debut May 17, posting a 3.64 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with a 42:14 K:BB over 42 frames.

  • Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Notches second quality start

Cecconi (3-3) earned the win Sunday against the Athletics, allowing six hits and one walk over seven shutout innings with three strikeouts.

The Cleveland right-hander scattered six singles en route to his second consecutive win, as he stymied the Athletics lineup in a difficult road park. With this performance, Cecconi lowered his season ERA from 4.15 to 3.38 across 37.1 total frames. The former Diamondback has found a groove in June, pitching to a fantastic 2.05 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 22 innings. Cecconi is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Cardinals at home next weekend.
