Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Submits quality start
Nelson allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Friday.
Nelson gave up two runs in the second inning and one more in the sixth. This was his first quality start since July 25 versus the Pirates. Over his last five starts, Nelson has surrendered 18 runs (15 earned) across 28.2 innings while posting a 32:4 K:BB. As long as he can keep his walk rate low, he should continue to be an effective mid-rotation starter. Overall, he's maintained a 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 105:32 K:BB across 119 innings through 27 appearances (17 starts) this season. Nelson's next start is projected to be at Milwaukee.

Nelson limited the damage to one run over five innings before giving up four in the sixth inning and exiting with two outs left in the frame. While the right-hander's stuff isn't overpowering, he's put together a solid 2025 season, posting a 3.46 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 106.2 innings in 25 appearances (15 starts).

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Fine work in no-decision
Nelson allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Nelson has racked up a season-high eight strikeouts in each of his last two starts. Since the beginning of July, he's made six starts, allowing 12 runs (nine earned) over 34 innings while posting a 30:9 K:BB in that span. That's right in line with his 3.20 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 89:30 K:BB through 101.1 innings over 24 appearances (14 starts) this season. Nelson is tentatively projected for a road start versus the Rangers early next week.

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Stuck with loss despite eight Ks
Nelson (6-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits over 5.1 innings as the Diamondbacks fell 7-2 to the Tigers. He struck out eight without walking a batter.
The right-hander was rolling until the fifth inning, when a Geraldo Perdomo throwing error set the stage for a three-run frame by Detroit and handed Nelson his first loss since June 7. He still set a new season high in strikeouts, and he's been tagged for more than two earned runs only once in his last nine trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's posted a 1.95 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB over 50.2 innings while going 4-1. With Arizona in sell mode, his run support could become shaky the rest of the way, but Nelson will look to get back in the win column in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Padres.

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Goes six scoreless in no-decision
Nelson did not factor into the decision in Friday's 1-0 extra-innings win over the Pirates, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four over six scoreless innings.
Nelson threw just 53 of 88 pitches for strikes but limited the Pirates to one hit while turning in his fourth quality start in his last five outings. The 27-year-old has allowed only eight earned runs during that stretch, and he's yielded two earned runs or fewer in seven of his past eight contests. He'll carry a 3.29 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 73:28 K:BB across 90.1 innings into a road matchup with the Tigers next week.

Nelson (6-2) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over six innings against the Cardinals. He struck out four.

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Escapes with no-decision Friday
Nelson came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Angels, coughing up four runs on seven hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out one.
He tossed 52 of 87 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, and he was lucky to last that long after Zach Neto and Yoan Moncada both took him deep in the first inning. It was the first time all season that Nelson has served up multiple homers in the same outing, and Friday's ragged performance ended a strong stretch for the 27-year-old right-hander in which he'd allowed two runs or fewer in five straight starts. Nelson will look to regroup over the All-Star break as he takes a 3.68 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 65:25 K:BB through 78.1 innings into the second half.

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Delivers seven strong frames
Nelson (5-2) earned the win Saturday against the Royals, allowing one run on four hits and no walks over seven innings. He struck out five.
Since surrendering seven runs over three innings June 3 in Cincinnati, Nelson has been lights out, giving up just five earned runs with a 0.78 WHIP and 36:6 K:BB across his past five starts. The right-hander opened the campaign as a reliever, but he's taken advantage of the absence of Corbin Burnes (elbow) and has pretty well cemented his spot at the back end of Arizona's rotation. Nelson has a 3.39 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 64:21 K:BB over 74.1 innings, and he lines up to face the Angels on the road next weekend.
