Nationals' Nasim Nunez: First in NL to 20 steals
Nunez went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's extra-innings loss to the Mets.
The speedy infielder began the night on the bench but still wound up seeing a nearly full allotment of plate appearances after pinch-running for Brady House in the seventh inning of a game that wound up going 12 frames. Nunez's steal was his 20th of the season, tying him with Jose Ramirez for the major-league lead, but he's been a fairly one-dimensional fantasy asset in 2026, slashing .187/.299/.209 in 45 games with zero homers, 14 RBI and 18 runs.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Moving to bench Monday
Nunez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.
Nunez has remained a fantasy asset with a National League-best 19 steals in 21 attempts on the season, but his lack of production at the plate may be starting to cost him some playing time. He'll head to the bench for the second time in four games while he's mustered a lowly .162/.289/.216 slash line since the beginning of May.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Sitting out Friday
Nunez is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Orioles.
It looks to be a routine day off for Nunez, who had started each of the previous 11 games. The Nationals will roll out Jorbit Vivas at second base in Friday's series opener.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Swipes two bags in win
Nunez went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases in Friday's 3-2 win over the Marlins.
Nunez singled on a bunt in the second inning before swiping second and third base following a walk in the seventh. After a miserable April, the 25-year-old has gone a modest 5-for-16 with four RBI across seven May contests. He's slashing .218/.320/.245 with just two extra-base hits, 14 RBI and 16 runs scored across 131 plate appearances this season and now leads the majors with 16 steals.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Collects four RBI on Saturday
Nunez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.
The 25-year-old middle infielder established a season high in RBI, which also matched a career best. However, Nunez is likely to remain strictly a fantasy streamer for stolen bases going forward -- he's slashing a pitiful .195/.298/.207 with one extra-base hit, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored over 96 plate appearances but does rank first in the major leagues with 12 steals.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Taking seat Wednesday
Nunez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
Jorbit Vivas will enter the starting nine at second base while Nunez receives a day off. Nunez had started in each of the Nationals' previous six games, going 2-for-19 with four walks, three stolen bases, four runs and one RBI.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Sitting Wednesday
Nunez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Jorbit Vivas will fill in at second base for Nunez, who will head to the bench after a stretch of four consecutive starts. Nunez is batting just .212 with one extra-base hit over 58 plate appearances this year, but he's provided value for fantasy managers who have rostered him primarily for his speed (seven steals in eight attempts).

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Keeps running Tuesday
Nunez went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Cardinals.
The 25-year-old switch hitter continues to make an impact on the basepaths while seeing consistent playing time, going 7-for-7 on steal attempts in his first nine games of 2026. Nunez isn't doing much else, however, slashing .200/.282/.200 with three RBI and four runs while mainly hitting toward the bottom of the Nationals' lineup. While Washington seems comfortable with his defense at second base, Nunez may need to provide more overall offense to hang onto a starting job.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Swipes two more bags Sunday
Nunez went 1-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
Getting the start at second base and batting second, Nunez upped his steal total on the season to five in five attempts through seven games. Sunday also marked the first time the 25-year-old had hit any higher than sixth in the order this year, as manager Blake Butera continues to mix and match his lineups. Nunez's speed is so far his only real selling point from a fantasy perspective, as he's batting .231 (6-for-26) with zero extra-base hits, two RBI and four runs scored.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Getting rest Saturday
Nunez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Nunez will get a breather after going 1-for-5 and scoring a run during Friday's blowout loss. Jorbit Vivas will fill in as Washington's second baseman and bat seventh.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Taking seat Monday
Nunez is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in Philadelphia.
Nunez started all three games against the Cubs in the Nationals' first series of the season, but he'll begin Monday's festivities on the bench. Jorbit Vivas is handling second base and batting eighth for Washington.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Swipes first bag of year
Nunez went 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Cubs.
Getting the start at second base and batting seventh, Nunez made an immediate impact with his speed when he drew a one-out walk and stole second in the sixth inning before scoring on a Ben Brown wild pitch. Nunez came into the season with 17 steals in 20 attempts over 90 big-league games in a utility role, giving him significant stolen-base upside if he hits enough to hang onto a starting spot at the keystone for the Nats.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Likely to start at second base
Nunez appears to be in line to be the Nationals' regular second baseman this season, Jessica Camerato and Paige Leckie of MLB.com report.
Luis Garcia is expected to shirt to first base, opening up the keystone for Nunez. The 25-year-old should provide a defensive upgrade over Garcia, but it remains to be seen how much offense Nunez can supply, as he comes into 2026 with a career .238/.329/.343 slash line in 170 big-league plate appearances. Nunez could make an impact on the basepaths, however, having gone 17-for-20 on steal attempts so far in his career before being successful in all seven of his SB attempts this spring.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Swipes two more bags
Nunez went 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
Getting the start at second base and batting second against left-hander Quinn Mathews while Luis Garcia played first base, Nunez ran his steals count for the spring up to six in six attempts. It's not yet clear exactly how Nunez will be deployed this season, but Garcia's defensive issues at the keystone could create more playing time than expected for his switch-hitting backup. Nunez's wheels are legit -- he stole 46 bases in 53 attempts between Triple-A and the majors over just 102 games in 2025 -- but he has yet to show he can hit big-league pitching consistently and is batting just .207 (6-for-29) this spring with an 8:9 BB:K.

Nationals' Nasim Nunez: Role still to be determined
Nunez has gone 5-for-27 (.185 average) with a 7:9 BB:K, three doubles, one RBI and four stolen bases through 12 Grapefruit League games this spring.
The 25-year-old is just 2-for-17 since the calendar flipped to March, but he's taking his walks, which is a good sign. He's also flashing his elite speed, reaching a sprint speed as high as 29.7 ft./sec earlier this spring, per Jessica Camerato of MLB.com. Nunez, who swiped 70 bags in the minors in 2022 and surpassed 50 steals again in 2023, remains in the mix at second base for a rebuilding Washington club that could decide to move Luis Garcia from the keystone to first base. Although he lacks power (13 career homers as a professional), Nunez is a reasonable flier in deep leagues as a potential one-category asset.
