  • Braves' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent outright to Triple-A

Atlanta outrighted Ornelas to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. Ornelas passed through waivers unclaimed after being booted off the 40-man roster. The infielder has spent the bulk of the season at the Triple-A level, hitting just .196/.295/.303 in 115 games.

  • Braves' Jonathan Ornelas: Booted off 40-man roster

Atlanta designated Ornelas for assignment Friday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jhancarlos Lara. It's the second time Ornelas has been designated for assignment this season, as the Rangers booted him off their 40-man roster in May before trading him to Atlanta. He's spent most of the 2025 campaign at the Triple-A level, where he's slashed only .196/.295/.303 in 115 contests.

  • Braves' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent down to minors

Atlanta optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Ornelas will end up as the odd man out on Atlanta's bench after the team claimed Vidal Brujan off waivers from Baltimore on Friday. Ornelas went 2-for-4 and scored a run during his time with the big club.

  • Braves' Jonathan Ornelas: Returns to Triple-A

Atlanta returned Ornelas to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. Ornelas was added to the big-league roster Saturday for Atlanta's matchup with the Reds in the MLB Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tenn., which was ultimately suspended in the first inning after a couple rain delays. With Atlanta needing an extra arm for the continuation of the game Sunday, right-hander Hurston Waldrep was called up from Triple-A to replace Ornelas as the team's 27th man.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent back to Round Rock

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Ornelas was brought onto the active roster Friday to replace Nick Ahmed but will now head back to the minors to make room for Corey Seager, who was activated from the IL on Saturday. Ornelas hasn't had much success at the plate this season, going 0-for-5 during his brief stints in the majors and logging a .414 OPS across 67 Triple-A plate appearances.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Back in big leagues

The Rangers recalled Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. The 24-year-old will fill the roster spot of Nick Ahmed, who was designated for assignment Friday. Ornelas will provide some infield depth with Corey Seager (hamstring) on the injured list, but it'll be Josh Smith operating as the regular shortstop.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Ornelas was recalled in late March but played sparingly, making just one start. Ezequiel Duran and Dustin Harris have joined the big club as Ornelas goes down and Wyatt Langford (oblique) lands on the injured list.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Moves up from Triple-A

The Rangers recalled Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Texas will bring Ornelas aboard to provide some extra infield depth while Josh Jung (neck) is on the injured list. Jung's absence is unlikely to open up regular at-bats for Ornelas, as Josh Smith (quadricep) and Ezequiel Duran will be ahead of him on the depth chart at third base.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent to minors

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Ornelas' defensive versatility and .881 OPS in spring training gave him a good chance to win a spot on the Rangers' bench out of spring training. However, the team would evidently like to see if his hot bat can hold up in the Triple-A regular season, which is not surprising given his career .505 OPS in the big leagues.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Gets September call-up

The Rangers recalled Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of Sunday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Athletics. Ornelas' addition strengthens Texas' depth in the infield, but he's unlikely to be in store for regular at-bats so long as Corey Seager, Josh Jung, Marcus Semien and Josh Smith are able to maintain health down the stretch. Prior to his promotion, Ornelas had hit .252 with three home runs and nine stolen bases over 366 plate appearances with Round Rock this season.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent to Round Rock

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Ornelas will return to the minors after appearing in 11 games for the Rangers following his June 30 call-up. He went 3-for-19 with an RBI over that span while serving as a utility infielder. Ornelas will get the chance to play on an everyday basis as he heads back to Round Rock, with whom he's slashed .248/.320/.348 with seven stolen bases, three home runs and 22 RBI across 257 plate appearances this season.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Fills in at 3B

Ornelas started at third base and went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Friday's 3-0 win over the Rays. Ornelas entered the starting lineup with Josh Smith (hamstring) unavailable. Smith has been the primary fill-in at third base for the injured Josh Jung (wrist), whose return has hit a delay. It was the same injury that forced Smith to miss four games in June, and Ornelas could be in line for starts over the weekend. Since getting called up from Triple-A Round Rock, Ornelas is 3-for-8 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI and a run scored over five games.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Promoted to majors

The Rangers recalled Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. He'll take the 26-man active roster spot vacated by Wyatt Langford (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Ornelas, 23, has posted a .720 OPS with two home runs and one stolen base at Round Rock this season, but the Rangers are bringing him aboard mainly for his capable glove in the middle infield. Though he's played exclusively at second base and shortstop this season, Ornelas also saw action at third base and center field in 2023.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Sent to minors

The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Ornelas, 23, appeared in eight games for Texas during the 2023 season, but he wasn't a serious candidate to make the Opening Day roster. The infielder should get the chance to play on a near-everyday basis at Round Rock to begin the campaign.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Returns to Triple-A

Ornelas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Ornelas collected one hit and struck out four times in seven at-bats since being promoted Sept. 9. He was sent down Monday along with Sam Huff to make room for Josh Jung (thumb) and Adolis Garcia (knee), who were both activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Back in big leagues

Ornelas was recalled by the Rangers on Saturday. Ornelas got into two games off the bench for the Rangers in August but did not receive a plate appearance. Given that he owns a modest 83 wRC+ in 108 Triple-A games this season, it's unlikely he's been called up for his bat. J.P. Martinez was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Heads back to Triple-A

Ornelas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Ornelas spent a week with Texas, but he did not record even one at-bat, so the Rangers decided to remove him from the roster to open up a spot for the returning Travis Jankowski. Given his ability to play both the infield and outfield, Ornelas figures to garner consideration next time there is an opening on the big-league roster.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Ornelas: Added to 40-man

Ornelas was added to the Rangers' 40-man roster Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. After slashing .301/.362/.425 with Double-A Frisco in 2022, Ornelas was deemed worthy of a spot on the 40-man roster for Rule 5 protection. Given a bit more time to develop in the minors, the 22-year-old infielder has a good shot at cracking the big leagues.
