The 31-year-old righty owns a 4.63 ERA at the Triple-A level, however, so the Giants will likely look for more consistency from him in the minors before potentially adding him to their MLB pitching staff.

Brubaker has managed a 3.38 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Yankees, but it's come with an uninspiring 10:9 K:BB over 16 frames. The 31-year-old didn't pitch in the majors in 2023 or 2024 while recovering from multiple injuries, including Tommy John surgery. Brubaker will likely pass through waivers unclaimed.

Making the fifth start of his rehab assignment and his second in a row at the Triple-A level, Brubaker built up to 67 pitches and generated five swings and misses on the day. Brubaker made a start for the Triple-A club after being transferred Tuesday and allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters over three innings. Prior to that outing, he had yielded just one earned run across 9.2 frames with a 6:3 K:BB across three minor-league games between New York's High-A and Double-A affiliates. Brubaker hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2022 due to injuries, including Tommy John surgery he underwent in April of 2023. He's out of minor-league options, so once his rehab assignment is over, the Yankees will have to either add him to the big-league roster or designate him for assignment.

Brubaker (ribs) made the second appearance of his rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Somerset, covering 2.2 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks. He didn't strike out a batter in the outing.
After tossing three scoreless innings in his first rehab appearance with High-A Hudson Valley on May 18, Brubaker was cleared to move up a level for his second start. Though he recorded one fewer out Friday compared to his previous outing, Brubaker pushed his pitch count up from 37 to 49. Brubaker wasn't particularly efficient, however, throwing just 26 strikes and inducing only four swings and misses. The Yankees look as though they'll let Brubaker continue to get stretched out for a starting role during his rehab assignment, but it's unclear if the big club will have a spot available for him in the rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. Marcus Stroman (knee) and Gerrit Cole (lat) are further behind in their rehab programs and aren't likely to be activated until the second half of June, but Ryan Yarbrough has performed well of late as the team's No. 5 starter and may not be dislodged by Brubaker.

Brubaker suffered three broken ribs on his left side when he was hit by a comebacker in a Feb. 21 Grapefruit League game against the Rays. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on April 7, but his absence will likely be beyond that date since he has yet to start a throwing program.
Brubaker has been diagnosed with three broken ribs as a result of a play last weekend when he tried to avoid a comebacker, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that, symptomatically, Brubaker is doing OK, but it's an injury that's going to sideline the pitcher for a while. How long exactly Brubaker might be shelved is not yet clear, but it's a blow to the Yankees' rotation depth.
