Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Moves up from Triple-A
The Blue Jays recalled Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
The 27-year-old righty has produced a 4.56 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 23.2 innings in 12 appearances (two starts) with Toronto this season. He'll provide the Blue Jays with a multi-inning bullpen option heading into Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Optioned to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Schultz to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Schultz has pitched in 12 games out of the bullpen for Toronto this season, registering a 4.56 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB across 23.2 innings. Following the Blue Jays' deadline acquisitions of Seranthony Dominguez and Louis Varland, Schultz is the odd man out.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Activated from IL
The Blue Jays reinstated Schultz (finger) from the 15-day injured list after Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The right-hander landed on the shelf about a month ago due to finger inflammation but will rejoin the Blue Jays after a two-game rehab assignment. Schultz will provide Toronto with some much-needed bullpen depth after a 16-4 loss in Tuesday's matinee.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Beginning rehab assignment
Schultz (finger) began a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays on Thursday.
Schultz hit the injured list with right middle finger inflammation in late June and resumed throwing roughly a week later. He should be activated relatively soon, as he typically works one or two frames per appearance and shouldn't need a ton of appearance before being reinstated.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Resumes mound work
Schultz (finger) threw a bullpen session on Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Schultz has been on the IL since late June due to inflammation in his right middle finger, and Friday is the first time since then that he's thrown off a mound. He figures to have a good chance to return when eligible immediately after the All-Star break, though his job security in Toronto's bullpen is less certain.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Playing catch
Schultz (finger) has begun playing catch from 60 feet, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The righty reliever was shut down in late June due to finger inflammation. Schultz likely won't need a rehab assignment before coming off the IL, giving him a chance to be activated right after the All-Star break, but it's not clear if there will be a spot for him in the big-league bullpen once he's healthy.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Shelved with finger issue
The Blue Jays placed Schultz on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right middle finger inflammation.
Schultz's finger issue presumably cropped up during his appearance in the Blue Jays' 15-1 loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, when he retired just four of the 10 batters he faced while allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk. The Blue Jays recalled Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo to join the bullpen as a replacement for Schultz, who won't be eligible to return until after the All-Star break.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Back in majors
The Blue Jays recalled Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
The right-hander was sent to Buffalo on June 8 but will rejoin Toronto on Tuesday with Bowden Francis (shoulder) headed to the injured list. Schultz has a 3.06 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB in 17.2 major-league innings across eight appearances (two starts) this year, and he could be a factor in the Blue Jays' rotation while Francis is out.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Optioned to Triple-A
Schultz was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Twins.
Schultz tossed a scoreless frame in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday, allowing two hits while striking out the side. The right-hander posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 24 strikeouts over 17.2 innings in eight appearances, including two starts, with Toronto after being called up May 24. Spencer Turnbull was called up from Buffalo in a corresponding move, but Schultz will likely return to the major-league roster in the not-too-distant future.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Yields three runs as opener
Schultz gave up three runs on four hits while striking out one across two innings in Friday's 6-4 win over Minnesota. He did not issue a walk.
Schultz was named the opener for Friday's contest despite working on just two days of rest. That may have factored into his shaky performance, as he yielded at least one run in both of his frames, including a Trevor Larnach solo homer in the first. Schultz tossed 40 pitches (24 strikes) and generated five whiffs before handing the ball off to Eric Lauer for the third inning. Schultz has a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB across 16.2 innings this season.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Serving as opener Friday
Schultz will be the Blue Jays' opening pitcher for Friday's contest in Minnesota.
Eric Lauer is expected to follow Schultz in a bulk relief role. Schultz is stretched out as a long reliever, but he'll be on two days' rest Friday, so his appearance figures to be relatively brief.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Dazzles in abbreviated start
Schultz gave up one hit and struck out four over 2.2 scoreless innings in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Rangers.
Making his first career big-league start, Schultz lasted 45 pitches (28 strikes) before turning the ball over to Eric Lauer and the Blue Jays bullpen to complete a combined shutout. Schultz's 2.03 ERA through 13.1 innings with Toronto this season is a bit misleading -- he gave up four unearned runs May 25 against the Rays -- but his 17:3 K:BB and 0.98 WHIP are just as impressive. The 27-year-old rookie might head back to Triple-A Buffalo once the staff gets healthier, but Schultz is making a strong case to stick around in a long-relief or swingman role.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Opening Wednesday's game
The Blue Jays named Schultz as their starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Rangers in Arlington, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Schultz will be making his first MLB start Wednesday, and though the Blue Jays haven't confirmed as much, the right-hander is likely to be utilized as more of an opener in front of lefty Eric Lauer, who had started the last time the fifth spot in the rotation came up last weekend. Schultz has worked out of the bullpen in each of his 13 appearances between Toronto and Triple-A Buffalo this season, covering no more than 4.1 innings in any of those outings. He'll also be taking the hill on just two days' rest Wednesday, so the Blue Jays may just be hoping to get two or three innings out of him before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Recalled by Toronto
The Blue Jays recalled Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.
The move corresponds with the Blue Jays placing Yimi Garcia (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list. Schultz has appeared in two major-league games for the Blue Jays this season, including an eight-strikeout performance in his MLB debut against the Mariners on April 20. He has a 3.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 20.2 innings in Triple-A this season.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Returns to Triple-A
The Blue Jays optioned Schultz to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
The right-hander was called up by Toronto on April 20 and struck out eight over 4.1 scoreless frames in his MLB debut that day, but he'll head back to Triple-A after giving up three runs across 2.1 innings Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Schultz is likely to get another look in the big leagues at some point this season, but for now he'll return to Buffalo.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Ties MLB record in debut
Schultz gave up two hits and struck out eight over 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the Mariners.
Per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, the eight Ks tied a major-league record for a pitcher making his MLB debut in a relief role, a mark most recently matched by Hayden Wesneski in 2022 with the Cubs. Schultz began a conversion to the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo last season and was having a good start to the season at that level, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB in 8.2 innings over four appearances. With the Blue Jays struggling to fill their fifth starter spot -- Easton Lucas, who took the loss Sunday, has been tagged for five homers and 14 runs in 7.2 innings over his last two starts -- Schultz made a strong case in his debut to stick around as a long reliever, and potentially even get a look as a primary pitcher working behind an opener.

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Getting first look in majors
Toronto recalled Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.
Schultz's call-up was one of a series of Toronto roster moves involving relievers Sunday, as fellow righty Dillon Tate was also added to the roster while Jacob Barnes was DFA'd and Nick Sandlin (lat) was placed on the 15-day IL. Schultz is getting Barnes' 40-man roster spot and has the opportunity to make his big-league debut following a lengthy career in the minors. He has a 4.48 career ERA over 130 minor-league games, 70 of which came as a starter. Schultz has been sharp out of the bullpen for Buffalo this season, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB over 8.2 innings.
