  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Routed by Philly

Weathers (2-2) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up five runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Marlins were thumped 11-1 by the Phillies. He struck out eight. The eight Ks were a season high for the southpaw, but so were the three long balls as Kyle Schwarber, Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott all took him deep on a night when Philly launched eight homers in total. Weathers made only eight starts in 2025 due to injuries, and he'll head into the winter with a 3.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through 38.1 innings.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Labors through four frames

Weathers allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two batters over four innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Wednesday. Weathers yielded a constant stream of traffic, failing to record a clean inning and allowing multiple baserunners in all but one of the frames in which he pitched. That caused him to rack up a high pitch count of 80 pitches through four frames, and he consequently didn't return for the fifth inning. Weathers shined with five scoreless frames in his return from a lengthy IL stint in his previous start, so fantasy managers may not want to hold this shaky outing against him too much given that it was in the altitude of Colorado. However, Weathers is lined up for a tough matchup in Philadelphia next week, so he doesn't make for a great SP option for those in the midst of fantasy playoffs.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Blanks Nats in return

Weathers (2-1) earned the win against the Nationals on Thursday, allowing five hits while striking out four across five scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk. Weathers was cleared to make his first start since early June after missing time due to a left lat strain. He looked good in his return, limiting the Nationals to five baserunners while generating 12 whiffs on just 68 pitches (46 strikes). Now that he has his first major-league start in three months under his belt, Weathers should have a longer leash in his next outing, which is tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Rockies.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Returns from IL to start Thursday

The Marlins activated Weathers (lat) from the 60-day injured list Thursday to start Thursday against the Nationals. Weathers will make his return to the Marlins' rotation for his first big-league start since June 7. The left-hander has been limited to only five starts in the majors this season, first missing time due to a forearm strain and more recently a lat strain. Weathers threw 68 pitches in his second of two rehab outings, so his workload will be relatively limited versus the Nats.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Set to return from IL on Thursday

The Marlins will activate Weathers (lat) from the 60-day injured list to start Thursday's game against the Nationals in Miami, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. After completing rehab starts with Triple-A Jacksonville on Aug. 30 and this past Thursday, Weathers returned to Miami on Monday and tossed a live bullpen session, per Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com. With Weathers' lat checking out fine following the throwing session, the Marlins have cleared him to slot back into the rotation for the series finale with Washington. Because Weathers has been on the shelf since June 9 due to the left lat strain and built up to 68 pitches in his most recent rehab start, he'll likely have a light workload restriction in place Thursday. Prior to landing on the IL, Weathers had made five starts this season for Miami, going 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 24.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Making rehab start Saturday

Weathers (lat) is expected to make a three-inning rehab start Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. If all goes well Saturday, Weathers is expected to make another start in the minors after that before returning from the 60-day injured list and slotting back into the Miami rotation before the middle of September. Weathers has been on the shelf since early June due to a strained left lat. The southpaw has been limited to just five starts for the Marlins this season but has collected a 3.28 ERA and 23:8 K:BB across 24.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Experiencing shoulder discomfort

Weathers returned to Miami on Monday and will be evaluated due to shoulder discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Weathers was removed from Saturday's start against the Rays after being hit in the head by a throw from catcher Nick Fortes between innings. Prior to that, however, Weathers was seen flexing his arm and experienced diminished velocity, so the shoulder discomfort makes sense now. The left-hander has made just five starts this season after missing the start of 2025 with a forearm issue. Weathers is 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA and 23:8 K:BB across 24.2 innings of work. A trip to the 15-day injured list could be in his near future.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Set for further evaluation

Weathers was removed from Saturday's start for precautionary reasons and will undergo further evaluation, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports. Weathers was removed from his start after three innings Saturday against the Rays after displaying diminished velocity while also flexing his left arm. The preliminary news is positive, with manager Clayton McCullough reporting that no major issues were uncovered during an initial evaluation, per Brian Murphy of MLB.com.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Exits after three innings

Weathers exited Saturday's start against the Rays after three innings and was seen flexing his left arm, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports. Murphy also reports that Weathers' velocity was down in his final inning of work. The report sounds ominous, but there has been no official word from the team.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Mixed results in loss

Weathers (1-1) took the loss against the Giants on Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. Weathers generated an impressive 17 whiffs on 99 pitches and was largely undone by a three-run homer in the fourth inning. It marked the first time the southpaw completed six innings since returning from the injured list May 14, though he had allowed just two earned runs over his previous three starts. He'll carry a 2.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 21.2 innings into a road matchup with the Rays next weekend.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: No-decision against former team

Weathers allowed two unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Monday. Weathers continued his strong start to the campaign Monday, coming up one out short of a quality start against his former team. This was the first time he's been tagged for multiple runs across three starts, as a two-out error by Connor Norby allowed the Padres to extend a rally in the fourth inning. Weathers threw 94 pitches (53 strikes) in this outing, displaying a bit of shaky control, but he looks fully stretched out at this point after opening the year on the injured list due to a forearm strain. Weathers has a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB across 15.2 innings. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Giants over the weekend.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Goes five strong in 2025 debut

Weathers (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts across five innings. Miami activated Weathers off the injured list for Wednesday's start after a forearm injury kept the 25-year-old sidelined since the beginning of the season. While he threw only 76 pitches -- an expected outcome after maxing out at 57 pitches during his rehab assignment -- Weathers worked with efficiency versus a potent Cubs offense. His lone blemish came in the fourth inning when Seiya Suzuki lifted a solo homer. His next start is scheduled for next week in a rematch with the Cubs.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Will start Wednesday for Miami

Weathers (forearm) is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. It will be Weathers' 2025 debut after he suffered a strained forearm during spring training. He's made three rehab starts while on the 15-day injured list, registering a 1.69 ERA and 13:4 K:BB across 10.2 innings. Weathers threw just 57 pitches in his latest rehab start, so it's likely he won't be fully stretched out Wednesday.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Stellar in first rehab outing

Weathers (forearm) struck out six over three perfect innings in his first rehab start with Single-A Jupiter on Sunday. Weathers didn't face the stiffest competition, but he couldn't have delivered better results in his first outing since going down with a left flexor strain late in spring training. The southpaw will likely need at least one more rehab start before returning from the 15-day injured list and rejoining the Miami rotation.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Throws bullpen session

Weathers (forearm) threw a bullpen session at LoanDepot Park on Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. The left-hander will throw a couple additional bullpen sessions before being cleared for a rehab assignment if all goes well. Coming back from a left flexor strain, Weathers hopes to rejoin the Marlins' rotation by the first week of May.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Starting up throwing progression

Weathers (forearm) is expected to begin a throwing progression later this week, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Weathers opened the season on the 15-day injured list after suffering a left flexor strain late in spring training. The southpaw appears to have responded well to a brief shutdown period, but he'll likely face an extended ramp-up period as he looks to get stretched back out for a starting role. If all goes well during that process, Weathers could be ready to return from the IL by late April, in a best-case scenario.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Earns win Tuesday

Weathers (4-6) allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings to earn the win over the Twins on Tuesday. Weathers did better in his second start back from a finger injury. The Marlins gave him a four-run lead in the second inning, and he only gave one run back on Royce Lewis' RBI single in the third. Weathers has generally pitched well this year, allowing two runs or fewer in seven of his 15 starts. He's at a 3.81 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 74:22 K:BB across 80.1 innings. Weathers is tentatively projected to make one more start at Toronto this weekend.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Set for second live BP session

Weathers (finger) is expected to throw three innings and around 50 pitches in a live batting practice session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Weathers looks set to increase the volume of his throwing after he tossed two innings and 35 pitches in his first live BP session Friday. The southpaw has been on the shelf since June 8 with a left index finger strain but looks poised to return from the 60-day injured list at some point in the second half of September.
... See More ... See Less
  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Nearing mound work

Weathers (finger) completed a flat-ground throwing session Monday and is hopeful to resume throwing bullpen sessions in two weeks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Weathers was placed on the injured list June 8 with a left index finger strain and has had a slow recovery thus far. Though his workout Monday is a step in the right direction, Weathers isn't on pace to face hitters until late August in a best-case scenario, and he'll require multiple rehab starts after that before a return from the 60-day IL becomes a possibility. The southpaw might not have enough time to get fully stretched out for a starting role during his rehab assignment, so if he comes off the IL in September, he might have to work out of the bullpen.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Will get re-evaluated this week

Weathers (finger) will be re-evaluated later this week and could begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports. The southpaw is currently rehabbing at the Marlins' complex in Jupiter after being pulled from his June 7 start due to a strained index finger on his pitching hand. Weathers was having a breakout campaign before the injury, posting a 3.55 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB through 71 innings, and if he gets cleared to throw before the weekend, he could still rejoin the big-league rotation before the All-Star break.
