Tigers' Casey Mize: Punches out six in Game 4
Mize didn't factor into the decision during Game 4 of the ALDS against Seattle on Wednesday. He gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters across three innings.
Doubles from Josh Naylor and Dominic Canzone allowed the Mariners to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Seattle wasn't able to generate much offense outside of that during Mize's brief time on the mound. The 28-year-old threw just 54 pitches Wednesday, but he will likely need the Tigers to advance to the ALCS in order to retake the mound during the postseason.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Starting Game 4, if needed
Mize will draw the start on the mound in Wednesday's Game 4 matchup with Seattle, if needed, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Mize will toe the rubber for the second time in the postseason if the Tigers' series against Seattle in the ALDS reaches a Game 4 on Wednesday. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out a batter in the team's 6-1 loss to the Guardians in Game 2 of the wild-card round. Mize will look to last longer in his next outing, whether it comes Wednesday or later down the road in the playoffs.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Short Game 2 outing
Mize took a no-decision in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over three-plus innings.
The only hit and run Mize surrendered came courtesy of George Valera, who cranked a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Mize struck out just one batter, though, and had thrown 62 pitches when he was lifted after issuing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. The right-hander should get another start if the Tigers advance to the ALDS, but manager A.J. Hinch would likely have a quick hook again.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Concedes two runs in no-decision
Mize did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 loss at Boston, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out eight over 6.1 innings. He did not issue a walk.
The Detroit right-hander ended his regular season on a high note, generating 14 whiffs out of his 80 total pitches to notch his ninth quality start. Mize tallied five or more strikeouts for the fifth time out of 28 total starts. The Auburn product contained the Red Sox's lineup, with the only runs he allowed scoring on single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Mize finishes with a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 139:36 K:BB across 149 total innings.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Falls to Atlanta
Mize (14-6) took the loss Sunday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
It's just the second loss in 10 starts for Mize. The right-hander held Atlanta scoreless through two innings Sunday before he gave up a run in three consecutive frames to finish the day. Overall, Mize sports a 3.91 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and 131:36 K:BB across 27 starts (142.2 innings) this season. He's tentatively lined up to face the Red Sox on the road his next time out.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Takes no-decision Tuesday
Mize allowed three runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings and did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-5, 10-inning loss to the Guardians. He walked one and struck out eight.
Mize was in line for his sixth loss of the season before Kerry Carpenter homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings. It was a slight step back for Mize, who had allowed a total of three runs on nine hits across 11 innings in his previous two starts combined. On the bright side, the righty continued to display good strikeout potential. He has now fanned 16 batters in 11.1 innings over his last two appearances, and his 8.3 K/9 is a big improvement from the 6.9 mark he posted during the 2024 regular season. Mize will look to keep missing bats and try to get back into the win column in his next outing, which is penciled in for Sunday against Atlanta.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Plenty of run support in 14th win
Mize (14-5) allowed two runs on four hits across six innings of work to earn the win in Tuesday's 12-2 victory over the Yankees. He struck out eight.
Mize allowed a solo home run to Aaron Judge in the first inning and then allowed another solo shot to Cody Bellinger in the fourth, but that was all New York could muster against the righty, who cruised to the win with plenty of run support. After giving up five runs across just 3.1 innings in an Aug. 27 start, Mize has responded by allowing only three total runs in 11 innings over his last two appearances, earning the win both times. The righty will take a 3.83 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into his next outing, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Marlins on the road.
