  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Transferred to 60-day IL

The Royals transferred Bubic (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Bubic has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a rotator cuff strain in his left (pitching) shoulder. Kansas City traded for Bailey Falter on Thursday to replace Bubic in the rotation.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Out for season with shoulder injury

Bubic (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain, and the Royals will give him the rest of the season to recover. It's an unfortunate ending to what has been a breakout 2025 campaign for Bubic, who posted a 2.55 ERA and 116:39 K:BB over 116.1 innings covering 20 starts. The Royals are hopeful that the left-hander can recover after extended rest and have a normal offseason.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Out with rotator cuff strain

The Royals placed Bubic (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Sunday after he was diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain.

Bubic complained of shoulder stiffness after Saturday's start, and the Royals quickly determined that he was dealing with an injury to his rotator cuff. According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, manager Matt Quatraro said that Bubic will undergo further testing, but the left-hander is a good bet to miss more than the minimum 15 days. The loss of Bubic -- who earned his first All-Star nod after compiling a 2.55 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 116 strikeouts in 116.1 innings over his first 20 starts this season -- is a devastating blow to a Kansas City rotation that has been missing Cole Ragans (shoulder) since early June.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Battling shoulder issue

Bubic said after Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Guardians that "physically something's not right," adding that he's been pitching through shoulder stiffness "for a good portion of the season," Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander's fastball has averaged 92.1 miles per hour this season, but he sat at 90.2 mph during his start Saturday while tying a season high with four walks over just 2.2 innings. Bubic will likely be evaluated throughout the week, and his availability for his next turn through the rotation -- which tentatively lines up for next weekend in Toronto -- is firmly up in the air. Regardless of whether he's available for his next start, the injury is worth monitoring since Bubic's workload this season (116.1 inning) is already approaching his career high of 130 innings from 2021.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Lacks control in loss

Bubic (8-7) allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out one over 2.2 innings, taking the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Guardians.

Bubic threw just 35 of 66 pitches for strikes in this outing, which was his shortest of the season. He's allowed 10 runs (nine earned) over 20.1 innings across four starts in July, but he's also walked 10 batters this month, a trend that will make it tough for him to replicate his first-half success if it continues. Bubic has a 2.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 116:39 K:BB through 116.1 innings across 20 starts this season. His next start is tentatively projected to be in a tough road matchup in Toronto.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Delivers five shutout frames

Bubic (8-6) allowed three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings Sunday, striking out two and earning a win over the Marlins.

Bubic cruised through five shutout innings on just 66 pitches with little threat from Miami. He left with a 6-0 lead, which may be part of the reason he didn't go deeper in the contest, but his velocity was also down across the board. Specifically, his fastball averaged just 90.5 mph, down from his usual 92.3 mph. Bubic posted a 4.86 ERA in his last six outings before the All-Star break but still owns a terrific 2.38 ERA with a 115:35 K:BB over 113.2 innings. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with Cleveland next weekend.

  • Royals' Kris Bubic: Another solid outing

Bubic didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Pittsburgh, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Bubic allowed fewer than four earned runs for a fifth consecutive start and fell one out short of his 12th quality start of the campaign. In his last five outings, Bubic owns a 4.03 ERA and a 31:8 K:BB across 29 innings. He will take a 2.48 ERA and a 113:34 K:BB across 108.2 innings into the All-Star break.
