Luke Williams: Enters open market
Williams elected free agency Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Williams was pushed off Atlanta's 40-man roster after slashing just .129/.176/.194 over 34 plate appearances in the big leagues this season. He's never been regarded as much of an offensive threat, so he'll have to rely on his versatile glove to net him a deal in the offseason.

Braves' Luke Williams: Sent outright to Triple-A
Atlanta outrighted Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Williams played in 45 games for Atlanta this season, though he managed only a .370 OPS through 34 plate appearances. Assuming the 29-year-old opts for free agency, his defensive versatility may be enough to draw interest from another organization looking to boost its minor-league depth.

Braves' Luke Williams: Back in majors
Atlanta selected Williams' contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
The utility man was outrighted to Gwinnett last weekend after being designated for assignment by Atlanta, but he's back in the big leagues with Jake Fraley (oblique) landing on the injured list. Williams has gone 4-for-30 with five stolen bases in 44 MLB games this season and is unlikely to see much playing time while up with the big club.

Braves' Luke Williams: Clears waivers
Williams cleared waivers Saturday and was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.
Williams will officially remain in the Atlanta organization after being designated for assignment Thursday. The 29-year-old utility man has been a liability at the plate in both MLB and Triple-A this year, though his versatility could become valuable if Atlanta's depth is tested down the stretch.

Braves' Luke Williams: DFA'd by Atlanta
Atlanta designated Williams for assignment Thursday.
Williams went just 4-for-30 at the plate with Atlanta this season while recording five RBI and scoring five runs. Williams' defensive versatility could allow him to get claimed by another team, though he remains a non-factor on offense.

Braves' Luke Williams: Returns from injured list
Atlanta activated Williams (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Williams has missed the last week and a half with an oblique strain and will bypass a rehab assignment and rejoin Atlanta. The utility player will serve in a bench role for Atlanta during the final month of the season.

Braves' Luke Williams: Placed on 10-day IL
Atlanta placed Williams on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique Thursday.
Williams hasn't appeared at the plate since Aug. 9 versus Miami. He's slashing .103/.156/.172 with two extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored, four stolen bases and a 1:9 BB:K across 32 plate appearances this season.

Braves' Luke Williams: Tough night Friday
Williams went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts after replacing Austin Riley (abdomen) in the fourth inning of Friday's win over the Cardinals.
Williams also committed a throwing error at third base after being pressed into duty when Riley exited the game with what the team labeled as lower-abdominal tightness. Williams has seen little action this season in a utility role, going just 2-for-18 in 25 games for Atlanta. There's no word yet on the severity of Riley's injury, but with the All-Star break coming up, he may be held out the rest of the weekend just as a precaution, leaving Williams as the only viable option currently on the big-league roster to fill in at the hot corner.

Braves' Luke Williams: Added to roster
Atlanta selected Williams' contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Williams was removed from the 40-man roster during spring training but has made his way back to the majors in spite of a .132/.205/.145 slash line this season at Gwinnett. The 28-year-old will offer defensive versatility off the bench.

Braves' Luke Williams: Outrighted to Triple-A
Williams cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Williams was battling for a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day bench, but he ultimately missed the cut after going 5-for-32 with three RBI and five runs scored in 16 spring games. He doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so his demotion to Triple-A will cost him his spot on the 40-man roster.

Braves' Luke Williams: Heading back to minors
Atlanta optioned Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Williams had been filling in at second base for the injured Whit Merrifield (foot) but didn't do much at the plate with a .581 OPS in seven contests. He's being replaced on the roster by Cavan Biggio, whose contract was selected Wednesday.

Braves' Luke Williams: Filling in for Merrifield
Williams will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Reds.
With Whit Merrifield (foot) likely out until the weekend, Williams should be in store for a look as Atlanta's primary second baseman. Williams will pick up his fifth start in six contests after opening September with a .231 average, two stolen bases, two RBI and one run over 13 at-bats.

Braves' Luke Williams: Records two hits, swipes bag
Williams went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's loss to Toronto.
Williams reached on an infield single in the bottom of the third before going on to swipe his second bag of the campaign. The infielder would later add a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth, while also being charged with two costly fielding errors in the contest. The two hits were Williams' first this month, and Saturday marked only his second multi-hit performance of the season. He's now batting .167 (2-for-12) in September with two RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored.

Braves' Luke Williams: Making rare start
Williams will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Williams will enter Atlanta's lineup for just the second time since being recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 23. He's spelling Gio Urshela, who should be locked into a near-everyday role at third base while Atlanta waits for Austin Riley (hand) to return from the 10-day injured list.

Atlanta recalled Williams from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
Williams is taking the roster spot vacated by Austin Riley (personal), who was placed on the paternity list. He could see some reps in the infield while Riley is away but is likely to be sent back down to the minors when the latter returns later this week.

Braves' Luke Williams: Sent back to minors
Atlanta optioned Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
The super-utility player was called up from Gwinnett on June 25, but he appeared in just five games over his two weeks with the big club, logging seven at-bats in total. Atlanta opted to replace Williams on the 26-man active roster with Eddie Rosario, who could settle into a regular role in the outfield while Michael Harris (hamstring) is on the injured list.

Braves' Luke Williams: Gets rare start Thursday
Williams got the start at third base Thursday and went 0-for-2 in a win over the Cubs.
Zack Short has seen the bulk of the playing time at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) has been on the shelf, but Williams got his first start of the season at any position Thursday, although he didn't do much with the opportunity. The 27-year-old utility player has only two other plate appearances on the season, and he's still looking for his first hit of 2024.
