White Sox's Tim Elko: Returned from IL, optioned
Elko (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, per MLB's transactions log.
Elko will shift to Triple-A following his return to health. He'd been on the shelf since July 11 after suffering a right knee sprain and was struggling through an 0-for-16 stretch at the plate prior to going down with the injury.

White Sox's Tim Elko: Kicks off rehab assignment
Elko (knee) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday and has gone 3-for-8 with two home runs, one walk, four RBI and three runs through his first two games.
The White Sox placed Elko on the 10-day injured list July 11 due to a right knee sprain, but he looks to be on the cusp of a return. Aside from moving short-side platoon outfielder Austin Slater, the White Sox didn't deal away any position players at the trade deadline, so Elko may not be in store for an everyday role at first base or designated hitter once he's activated.

White Sox's Tim Elko: Back in big leagues
The White Sox recalled Elko from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday. He'll start at first base and bat seventh in the White Sox's series finale versus the Blue Jays.
Elko has struggled during his big-league chances thus far, putting up a .601 OPS and 38.1 percent strikeout rate over 63 plate appearances. The right-handed-hitting Elko could be a regular part of the White Sox lineup against left-handed pitching, but his opportunities to start versus righties could be more limited.

Meanwhile, Miguel Vargas, who had been playing first base regularly, has been slotting in at third while Josh Rojas has mostly moved to second base in the wake of Lenyn Sosa's placement on the IL due to a hip injury.
