  • Twins' Alan Roden: Will undergo surgery

Roden is scheduled to undergo surgery for his left thumb, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Roden was already slated to miss the entire 2025 season after being transferred to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, and after seeing a hand specialist, it's been determined that surgery on his left thumb is the best course of action. Roden will end the 2025 campaign with a .191/.261/.294 slash line with one steal, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI across 153 plate appearances between the Blue Jays and Twins.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Season comes to end

The Twins transferred Roden (thumb) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. Minnesota placed Roden on the 10-day IL on Friday due to a left thumb sprain, and though he had been scheduled to meet with a hand specialist before his next steps were determined, the Twins have already elected to rule him out for the season. After being acquired from the Blue Jays ahead of the trade deadline, Roden hit just .158/.200/.263 with an 0:13 BB:K in 12 games for Minnesota. He'll likely have to compete for a strong-side platoon role in the Twins outfield next spring.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Put on IL

The Twins placed Roden on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a sprained left thumb. Roden was scratched from Friday's lineup due to the sprained thumb, and the injury will require a stint on the injured list. James Outman was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move. Expect Outman and Austin Martin to see time in left field while Roden is sidelined.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Nursing sprained thumb

Roden was diagnosed with a sprained left thumb ligament Friday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Roden's thumb injury caused him to be scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's contest, and there is a chance it will also force him onto the injured list. If the 25-year-old ends up having to miss an extended period of time, Austin Martin would be the leading candidate to receive more playing time in the outfield.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Out Monday with jammed thumb

Roden (thumb) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees. Roden will be on the bench for at least one game after he exited late in Sunday's 11-inning win over the Royals due to a jammed thumb. With Roden out of the lineup, Kody Clemens will make a start in left field, which opens up first base for Edouard Julien.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Exits with thumb injury

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that Roden was lifted for a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-3 win over the Royals in 11 innings due to a jammed thumb, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Roden went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts prior to his departure. Baldelli downplayed Roden's injury, but the rookie outfielder could still need a day or two off to make a full recovery. Roden has been getting steady playing time since he was acquired from the Blue Jays on July 31, but he is hitting just .192 through eight games with the Twins.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Hits first homer with new club

Roden went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Tigers. Roden singled and scored in the first inning before launching his first home run with the Twins in the sixth. In six games since being acquired at the trade deadline, the 25-year-old has gone just 3-for-18 with an 0:8 BB:K. For the year, he's slashing .198/.273/.319 with two home runs, nine RBI and 15 runs scored across 132 plate appearances between Minnesota and Toronto.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Taking seat against southpaw

Roden is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. Though he'll take a seat with southpaw Joey Cantillo on the hill for Cleveland, Roden could be in line for regular at-bats against righties, at least until one or both of Byron Buxton (rib) and Luke Keaschall (forearm) come off the injured list. After being acquired from the Blue Jays on Thursday, Roden started Minnesota's first two games in Cleveland, going 1-for-10 with a double and a run scored while striking out six times.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Moves up from Triple-A

The Twins recalled Roden from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. Roden was initially assigned to St. Paul after being acquired from the Blue Jays on Thursday, but he'll be called upon to fill one of the many openings on the big club's 26-man active roster in the wake of the trade deadline. With the Twins moving several key pieces at the deadline, Roden could get an extended trial in the outfield over the final two months of the season. The 25-year-old posted a .589 OPS in 44 games in the majors with Toronto this season but slashed .331/.423/.496 in 142 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo.

  • Twins' Alan Roden: Traded to Minnesota

Roden and Kendry Rojas were acquired by the Twins on Thursday in exchange for Louis Varland and Ty France, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Roden struggled in his first taste of the majors this year with a .589 OPS in 113 plate appearances, and he's now been sent to Minnesota with Toronto strengthening its bullpen. The 25-year-old has a .331/.423/.496 slash line with three homers and four stolen bases in 32 games at the Triple-A level this season, and he could have a clearer path to playing time with a Twins team that just offloaded much of its MLB roster.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Moved down to Triple-A

The Blue Jays optioned Roden to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Will Wagner, who was recalled from Triple-A. Roden made the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, and after a brief stint in the minors he returned to the big leagues at the end of May. He's gone 7-for-24 (.292) with two doubles and three RBI since the beginning of June. He has seen sparse playing time in the majors and will get more reps in an everyday role in Triple-A.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Back in action Sunday

Roden (knee) will start in left field and bat ninth Sunday against the White Sox. Roden hasn't appeared in a game since Wednesday due to a swollen right knee, but he's been given the green light to re-enter the starting nine. With Nathan Lukes returning from the 7-day injured list earlier this weekend and Addison Barger (hip) rejoining the lineup Sunday following a one-game absence, Roden's opportunities in the Toronto outfield could be fairly limited.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Late scratch with knee issue

Roden was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup versus the Diamondbacks due to right knee inflammation, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. It's not clear when or how Roden was hurt, but the Blue Jays could provide more information on his status after the game. Will Robertson has entered the lineup in Roden's place.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Back in big leagues

The Blue Jays recalled Roden from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. The 25-year-old will return to Toronto as Anthony Santander (shoulder) heads to the 10-day injured list. Roden struggled in his first taste of the majors earlier this season with a .178/.262/.260 slash line in 28 games, but he's been crushing for Triple-A Buffalo with three homers, three steals and a 1.029 OPS in 83 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Raking at Buffalo

Roden has a .375/.467/.625 slash line with three homers, three steals, 11 RBI and 14 runs in 16 games since being optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. The 25-year-old struggled in his first exposure to MLB pitching this season, managing a .522 OPS in his first 84 big-league plate appearances, but since returning to Triple-A, Roden has been locked in. He will likely be the first player called back up if the Blue Jays have a vacancy in their outfield.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Swats first career homer

Roden went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over Atlanta. Roden got out to a fast start offensively off one of the better pitchers in the league in Spencer Schwellenbach. Roden began his day with a double before pushing the Blue Jays ahead for good with a two-run blast in the fifth. Roden doubled his season RBI total on one swing and has held his own thus far with just a 15.1 percent strikeout rate. The 26-year-old is slashing .277/.340/.404 with a 3:8 BB:K in 53 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Idle against lefty

Roden is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. After starting in each of the last five games and going 3-for-17 at the plate, the lefty-hitting Roden will hit the bench for the series finale while the Orioles send southpaw Cade Povich to the mound. Davis Schneider will fill in for Roden in left field and bat ninth.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Sitting against lefty Wednesday

Roden is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. After starting in each of the last three games while going 4-for-10 with a double, a run and an RBI, Roden will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed batter Will Wagner as the Nationals send southpaw MacKenzie Gore to the hill. Davis Schneider will check in for Roden in left field and will bat seventh.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Named to Opening Day roster

Roden was informed Sunday that he has made the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Roden has impressed this spring with a pair of homers and twice as many walks (six) as strikeouts (three) in 19 Grapefruit League games. The Blue Jays have yet to officially add Roden to the 40-man roster, and his exact role with the big club is to be determined, but his on-base skills are particularly strong and could help him carve out semi-regular playing time in the Toronto outfield.

  • Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Could open season in majors

Roden is firmly in the mix for a spot on the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster with Daulton Varsho (shoulder) set to begin the season on the injured list, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. The organization wants Roden, one of its top prospects, to get consistent playing time, but that might be possible in the majors for the first couple weeks of the year with Varsho needing a little more time to complete his recovery from shoulder surgery. Roden has had an outstanding camp at the plate, batting .391 (9-for-23) with a 6:3 K:BB, two doubles and two homers in 18 games, but he could be stretched defensively in center field. Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw are also candidates to help cover for Varsho in center, and two of that trio seem likely to be on Toronto's initial 26-man roster.
