Yankees' Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: Moving up to Triple-A
Rotowire
Rodriguez-Cruz will be promoted from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Rodriguez-Cruz earned the late-season promotion after posting a 2.42 ERA and 173:57 K:BB over 145 innings between High-A Hudson Valley and Somerset. Acquired from the Red Sox last offseason in the Carlos Narvaez trade, Rodriguez-Cruz leads all minor leaguers with his 173 strikeouts.
Rodriguez-Cruz has a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB in 45.1 innings through eight starts for Double-A Somerset.
Rodriguez-Cruz has been a prospect of note since his time in Boston's system -- he was traded to the Yankees this past offseason for Carlos Narvaez -- but this has certainly been a breakout season for the 6-foot-3 righty. He was promoted to Double-A on July 11 after stifling High-A hitters to the tune of a 2.26 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. Rodriguez-Cruz has a full arsenal of quality pitches, led by his sinker and sweeper, and his 8.1 percent walk rate at Double-A is the best mark of his career. He has also logged 129 innings this year -- almost 40 more than his prior career high of 89.2 innings in 2024.

Yankees' Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: Traded to Pinstripes
Rotowire
The Red Sox traded Rodriguez-Cruz to the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Carlos Narvaez, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Over 20 games (19 starts) between Single-A and High-A in 2024, Rodriguez-Cruz turned in a 2.84 ERA and 1.19 WHIP alongside a 99:39 K:BB over 85.2 innings. The 21-year-old right-hander will likely remain in High-A with his new organization and have his sights set on a promotion to Double-A Somerset.
