Top Emmet Sheehan News

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Begins conversion to short relief

Sheehan didn't factor into the decision Friday, getting the start but working only one inning in a 3-2 victory over the Mariners. He gave up one unearned run on one hit while striking out three.

The Dodgers will shift the 25-year-old right-hander to the bullpen in the playoffs, and Sheehan looked like he will have no issues adapting to the role, topping out at 97.6 mph with his fastball as he struck out the side around a single, a wild pitch and an error. If this was Sheehan's final appearance of the regular season, he'll put 2025 in the books with a 2.82 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 89:22 K:BB through 73.1 innings, and he could have a prominent spot in the Dodgers' 2026 rotation plans.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Strong start goes to waste

Sheehan allowed one hit and struck out 10 without walking a batter over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.

Sheehan had another excellent outing, going at least seven frames for the third time in his last five appearances. He's given up just four runs over 31.1 innings with a 42:7 K:BB in that span, but he wasn't able to get a win after Blake Treinen had a poor performance in the eighth inning. Sheehan lowered his ERA to 2.86 with a 0.97 WHIP and 86:22 K:BB through 72.1 innings across 14 outings (11 starts) this season. He is tentatively projected for one more start in the regular season, which would be in Seattle.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Fares well behind opener

Sheehan allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out seven over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Monday.

The Dodgers shielded Sheehan from the Phillies' tough top of the lineup the first time through the order, though the move didn't initially pay off. Opener Anthony Banda gave up a run, prompting Sheehan's entry into the game after Banda faced the minimum three batters. This was still a positive outing for Sheehan, who has allowed just four runs over 24.1 innings over his last four appearances. For the season, he has a 3.17 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 76:22 K:BB across 65.1 innings through 13 appearances (10 starts). His next outing is projected to be at home versus the Giants this weekend, though it's not yet clear if that will be a traditional start or another bulk-relief assignment.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Slated for bulk relief Monday

Sheehan is slated to work in a bulk relief role in Monday's game against the Phillies, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Left-hander Anthony Banda will serve as the Dodgers' opener before handing things off to the right-handed Sheehan. Each of Sheehan's last six appearances have been traditional starts, and he's coming off one of his best outings of the season, having held the Rockies to one run while fanning nine over seven frames.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Excellent in sixth win

Sheehan (6-3) allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Sheehan retired the first 15 batters he faced before allowing back-to-back singles to open the sixth inning. The Rockies were able to score a run with a Tyler Freeman RBI single, but that was it for the damage on Sheehan's line. The 25-year-old was considered to be skipped for a start last week but has maintained his place in a six-man rotation for now, and it's tough to see him getting bumped after an outing this strong. He's now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 69:19 K:BB through 59.2 innings over 12 appearances (10 starts). Sheehan is tentatively scheduled for a tough home start versus the Phillies next week.
