Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Reps in outfield not ruled out
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes indicated during last week's GM Meetings that the team hasn't ruled out giving Rushing some reps in the outfield, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Rushing has made a total of 32 starts in left field in the minors, but 37 of his 38 starts with the Dodgers in 2025 were at catcher and the other came at first base. Catcher and first base remain blocked with the big club, but the left-field job with the Dodgers is open. While it seems unlikely the Dodgers would commit to Rushing as their primary left fielder, the position offers the 24-year-old a potential path to playing time. Rushing struggled in a reserve role with the Dodgers this season, slashing just .204/.258/.324 with a 37.4 percent strikeout rate over 53 regular-season tilts.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Left off NLCS roster
Rushing is not on the Dodgers' NLCS roster, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Rushing was on the wild-card and NLDS rosters and struck out as a pinch hitter in his lone plate appearance. With Will Smith fully recovered from his fractured hand and no longer under any workload restrictions, the team no longer has a need for a third catcher. Ben Rortvedt will back up Smith, and reliever Ben Casparius has taken Rushing's spot on the roster.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Opens scoring with homer
Rushing went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mariners.
Rushing went deep off Logan Gilbert in the fifth inning to open the scoring. Since returning from a shin injury Sept. 16, Rushing has gone 5-for-19 (.263) over seven games while sharing the catching duties with Ben Rortvedt. Rushing is now slashing .200/.255/.314 with four homers, 24 RBI, 14 runs scored and four doubles over 52 big-league games this season. Rortvedt has been steady while hitting .244 in September, and as the more experienced catcher, he may continue to see a starting role in the postseason unless Will Smith (hand) is able to return.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Returns from IL
The Dodgers reinstated Rushing (shin) from the injured list Tuesday.
A bone bruise in Rushing's right shin caused him to move to the injured list Sept. 6, but he'll return to the active roster following a minimum-length stay. Los Angeles will deploy Ben Rortvedt behind the dish Tuesday against the Phillies, but with Will Smith (hand) set to remain sidelined until at least Saturday, Rushing could make a handful of starts this week.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Begins rehab assignment
Rushing (lower leg) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Rushing has been sidelined since Saturday with a shin injury, but it appears that he has the chance to be activated after a minimum stint on the injured list. He went 1-for-4 with a double and caught all nine innings of Thursday's game.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Lands on injured list
The Dodgers placed Rushing on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a bone bruise in his right shin, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
CT scans on Rushing's leg confirmed he didn't suffer a fracture after fouling a ball off his leg Friday, though he will still need to spend time on the injured list. Ben Rortvedt is expected to make a handful of starts at catcher with Will Smith nursing a hand injury, and the Dodgers will promote Chuckie Robinson from Triple-A to serve as extra backstop depth.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Out of Saturday's lineup
Rushing (shin) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Rushing wasn't able to walk off the field under his own power after fouling a ball off his right leg Friday, and he'll remain on the bench for Saturday's contest while he recovers. Ben Rortvedt will draw the start behind home plate as a result and bat ninth.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Battling bruised shin
Rushing was pulled from Friday's game versus Baltimore with a right lower-leg contusion.
Rushing needed to be helped off the field after fouling a ball off his leg in the sixth inning, but the fact that the Dodgers are calling his injury a bruise suggests he managed to escape without any fractures. Los Angeles is expected to be without Will Smith (hand) for the entirety of the series against the O's, so Rushing's injury could spell increased playing time for Ben Rortvedt.

Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Exits with injury
Rushing was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles with a right shin/knee injury, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.
Rushing was in quite a bit of pain after fouling a ball off his right leg in the sixth inning, and he had to be carried off the field by the Dodgers' training staff. The team will take a closer look at him to determine if he suffered any fractures as a result of the incident and should offer an update in the near future. With Will Smith (hand) also nursing an injury, Ben Rortvedt could be in line to make a few starts behind the plate over the next several days.

Rushing went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Padres.
Rushing was 0-for-9 with four strikeouts over his previous four games. He broke the slump in the seventh inning, putting the Dodgers ahead for good when he took Jeremiah Estrada deep. Rushing is up to three homers, 19 RBI, 12 runs scored and three doubles while slashing .187/.246/.299 over 118 plate appearances. He continues to serve as the backup to Will Smith behind the plate.
