  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. Palmquist really struggled in two relief appearances during his most recent stint in the majors, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and seven walks over 3.2 innings. He'll likely go back into the rotation at Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Rejoins big club

The Rockies recalled Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. With Colorado trading Jake Bird and Tyler Kinley prior to Thursday's deadline, Palmquist will come back up to reinforce the pitching staff. The left-handed Palmquist has worked exclusively as a starter at the big-league level so far in his career, but he has struggled to a 7.63 ERA and 1.73 WHIP, and it's possible he works as more of a swingman this time around.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Sent to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Palmquist has made seven starts across his two stints in the majors this season, and he'll head back to Triple-A with a 7.63 ERA and 22:18 K:BB across 30.2 innings with the Rockies. Kyle Freeland (back) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list later this week to replace Palmquist in the rotation, according to Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Receiving another start

Palmquist is slated to start Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks at Coors Field. The rookie will pick up a second turn through the rotation after being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to serve as a replacement for lefty Kyle Freeland (back), who was placed on the injured list last weekend. While stepping in for Freeland in Monday's 6-4 win over the Nationals, Palmquist took a no-decision and gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. Over his six starts this season with the Rockies, Palmquist owns a 7.76 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 18:16 K:BB in 26.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Gives up four runs

Palmquist allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in 4.2 innings during Monday's 6-4 win over the Nationals. After a short trip to the minors, Palmquist came back and did not factor in the decision, departing in a one-run game. The 24-year-old has only made it through five innings once this season and has struggled when called upon, pitching to a 7.76 ERA in 26.2 innings over six appearances.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Moving into rotation

The Rockies recalled Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. He was just optioned to Triple-A on Thursday, but Palmquist will rejoin the Rockies in short order and reclaim a spot in the rotation after Kyle Freeland (back) was placed on the 15-day IL. Palmquist will start Monday on the road against the Nationals, and he'll tentatively line up for a second start later in the week versus the Diamondbacks at Coors Field. Though he's regarded as one of the better pitching prospects in a thin system, he went 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over his first five starts with Colorado and won't make for an appealing streaming option in the majority of fantasy leagues.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Sent back to minors

The Rockies optioned Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Palmquist struggled in his first five starts at the major-league level, collecting a 7.77 ERA and 16:13 K:BB across 22 innings of work. The left-hander's demotion to Albuquerque suggests that Austin Gomber (shoulder) could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to take the hill the next time a fifth starter is needed Sunday in Atlanta.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Unravels late in loss

Palmquist (0-4) took the loss against the Mets on Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Palmquist opened with three scoreless frames before serving up a pair of home runs across the fourth and fifth innings. The rookie notched a career-high eight strikeouts but has now yielded at least four earned runs in three of his four major-league starts. He'll carry a bloated 8.50 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 14:10 K:BB across 18 innings into a home rematch with the Mets next weekend.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Shelled in second start

Palmquist dropped to 0-2 in Wednesday's 9-5 loss to the Phillies, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings. Palmquist got into a hole early, allowing two runs in the first inning. The Colorado offense picked him up and tied the game in the bottom of the second inning, but Palmquist then gave up three runs in the third and was on the hook for the loss from there on out. The southpaw lacked both command and control in the outing -- he served up two home runs and a double while throwing only 46 of 86 pitches for strikes and issuing four free passes. Palmquist's MLB career has gotten off to a rough beginning, as he's allowed 11 earned runs through 8.1 frames over his first two starts. Ryan Feltner (back) has been throwing from the mound as he works his way back from the injured list, and when he eventually returns, it's likely that Palmquist will head back to the minors.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Struggles in big-league debut

Palmquist (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits and a walk while failing to record a strikeout over four innings as he took the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks. A steady stream of traffic on the bases and productive outs by Arizona made Palmquist's work more difficult in his major-league debut. He threw 48 of 76 pitches for strikes, and it didn't help that the Rockies offered just two hits and four walks without scoring a run to support him. Palmquist posted a 3.82 ERA over 35.1 innings with Triple-A Albuquerque prior to his call-up, so it's likely asking a lot of the 24-year-old to step in with excellent performances right away. The southpaw is tentatively projected for his home debut versus the Phillies next week, which makes him incredibly risky for fantasy managers.

  • Rockies' Carson Palmquist: Bothered by non-throwing arm

Palmquist was removed from his relief appearance in Wednesday's Cactus League game the Angels due to an apparent right arm injury, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. Palmquist is a southpaw, so while his injury is to his non-throwing arm, it's still less than ideal that he wasn't able to stay in the game after hitting Anthony Rendon with a pitch to lead off the fifth inning. The southpaw had previously worked a clean fourth inning, working around a one-out double by striking out Mike Trout to end the frame. The 23-year-old is likely to open the 2024 season at either Triple-A Albuquerque or Double-A Hartford.
