Santana earned the save in Saturday's 3-1 win over Atlanta, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
Santana was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and did so on 19 pitches. The 29-year-old has bounced back from a blown save Wednesday with back-to-back scoreless outings and has now held opponents off the board in 10 of his past 11 appearances. For the season, he's 16-for-19 in save chances with a 2.18 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 60:17 K:BB across 70.1 innings.

Pirates' Dennis Santana: Blows third save
Santana gave up a run on two hits in 1.1 innings Wednesday to blow his third save of the season in a 4-3 extra-innings win over the Reds. He struck out two without walking a batter.
The right-hander got taken deep by Tyler Stephenson in the ninth inning to tie the game at 2-2, only for the Pirates to pull out the win in the 11th. Santana may not have a classic closer's arsenal, averaging 94.8 mph on his fastball, but he's been very effective this year in a high-leverage role, recording four wins, 15 saves and 12 holds with a 2.24 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 58:17 K:BB through 68.1 innings.

Pirates' Dennis Santana: Notches 15th save
Santana allowed a walk in a scoreless inning Tuesday while earning a save over the Reds. He struck out one batter.
Santana forced a game-ending double play after issuing a one-out walk to Elly De La Cruz. It was Santana's 15th save in 17 chances, and he's now converted nine straight dating back to early August. During that stretch, he's produced a stellar 1.00 ERA over 18 frames. Santana now owns a 2.15 ERA with a 56:17 K:BB through 67 innings for the year.

Santana has been inconsistent since inheriting the closer role from David Bednar, but he delivered Friday. He entered the game with a runner on first base and the score tied at 2-2 before getting out of the inning when Ian Happ was caught stealing. The Pirates took the lead in the top of the ninth inning, and Santana then faced the minimum three batters in the bottom of the frame due to another caught stealing. He now has four scoreless appearances in his last six outings.

It was an encouraging rebound after the 29-year-old blew his first save chance since taking over as the Pirates' closer Wednesday. Santana (3-4) took the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits over 1.1 innings. He did not record a walk or a strikeout.
Santana was charged with a blown save after allowing an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, then gave up two more runs in the ninth. In three appearances since David Bednar was traded to the Yankees, the 29-year-old Santana has surrendered seven earned runs and taken two losses.
