  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Hit around by Tigers in third loss

Ohl dropped to 0-3 in Friday's 7-0 loss to the Tigers after striking out one batter while giving up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.

Making his third start in five appearances with the Twins, Ohl was deployed as more of an opener but was still hit around in the abbreviated appearance. The rookie right-hander established season worsts in both runs and hits allowed, though a fielding error by Luke Keaschall in the first inning prevented more damage from being done to his ERA. Ohl has a 7.90 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over his first 13.2 innings in the majors, and his current role as a swingman doesn't give him much of a clear path to fantasy viability.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Receiving start Friday

Ohl is listed as the Twins' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Tigers at Target Field.

Ohl made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 scoreless frames in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Royals. The rookie right-hander has previously made two starts for Minnesota and made another five starts in the minors earlier this season, but he has yet to cover more than four innings in any outing. As such, Ohl will likely be deployed as more of an opener than a traditional starter Friday, with Jose Urena available to work in bulk relief behind him.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Works out of bullpen Sunday

Ohl didn't record a strikeout and allowed one hit and one walk over 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Royals in 11 innings.

Ohl made a 2.2-inning start in his previous appearance Wednesday against the Tigers before moving back to the bullpen this weekend. He entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and was able to preserve the Twins' one-run lead before being lifted midway through the seventh, enabling him to come away with his first career hold. The Twins still have an open spot in the rotation that will need to be filled Tuesday against the Yankees, but given his usage Sunday, Ohl is unlikely to serve as anything more than an opener if he draws the start that day.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Getting start Wednesday

Ohl will start Wednesday's contest in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Ohl will be pitching on three days' rest after making a three-inning relief appearance Saturday in Cleveland. The 25-year-old also hasn't thrown more than four innings at the major- or minor-league level in 2025, so he's unlikely to pitch deep into Wednesday's game. Ohl has permitted five runs with a 6:2 K:BB over six innings in two appearances (one start) with the Twins this season.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Rejoins big club

The Twins recalled Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

Ohl made his MLB debut Tuesday, taking a loss to the Red Sox while allowing four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over three innings. Though he was optioned to Triple-A immediately after that contest, Ohl is eligible to rejoin Minnesota two days later after the Twins had several openings on the 26-man active roster following Thursday's trade deadline. Though he started and tossed 72 pitches against Boston, Ohl could end up working out of the bullpen during his upcoming stint with the Twins. Minnesota still has an opening in the rotation that it will need to fill during next week's series in Detroit, but trade-deadline pickups Taj Bradley and Mick Abel could end up getting the call over Ohl to step in as the club's new No. 5 starter.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Sent back to minors

The Twins optioned Ohl to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.

Ohl made his major-league debut in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Red Sox, allowing four runs over three innings as a starter. He could get another opportunity with the big club down the stretch, but for now, he'll return to a swingman role at St. Paul.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Struggles in debut

Ohl (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk over three innings Tuesday, striking out four and taking a loss against Boston.

Ohl's MLB debut got off to a decent start with two scoreless innings and three punchouts in the first inning. However, he stumbled in the third, coughing up four runs, capped off by Trevor Story's two-run shot. Ohl has primarily worked out of the bullpen in the minors this year, registering a 2.17 ERA across 22 appearances (66.1 frames). He hasn't thrown more than four innings in any outing this year, but he had a fairly normal starter's workload with Double-A Wichita in 2024. It remains to be seen if he'll get another turn in the rotation. Minnesota's staff is a bit shaken up due to several injuries and a recent trade sending Chris Paddack to the Tigers.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Promoted Tuesday

The Twins recalled Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday.

Minnesota lists Ohl as its starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox in what will be the right-hander's MLB debut. Ohl has worked as both a starter and reliever across three minor-league levels this season and has a 2.17 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 79:10 K:BB over 66.1 innings.

  • Twins' Pierson Ohl: Set for MLB debut Tuesday

The Twins plan to call Ohl up from Triple-A St. Paul to start or pitch in bulk relief in Tuesday's game versus the Red Sox, Theodore Tollefson of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Ohl began the season as a reliever at Single-A Fort Myers, but he has been excellent across three levels while splitting time between the bullpen and rotation, posting a 2.17 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 79:10 K:BB over 66.1 frames. The 25-year-old hasn't worked more than four innings or thrown more than 68 pitches in an outing this season, so he will have a relatively limited workload Tuesday.
