  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Ties season high with seven Ks

Ober took a no-decision Wednesday against the Athletics, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk in 5.2 innings. He struck out seven. Ober turned in his fourth consecutive start of at least five innings since coming off the injured list, and he induced a strong 18 whiffs en route to tying a season high in punchouts. The right-hander had a dismal June, posting a 9.00 ERA across five starts in the month, but he's at least managed to log a more encouraging 4.09 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB over his first four outings of August after missing over a month of action due to a left hip impingement. That said, Ober could have his work cut out for him in Toronto against the first-place Blue Jays his next time out.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Decent in no-decision

Ober allowed three runs on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Tigers on Thursday. Ober allowed a two-run home run to Riley Greene in the fourth inning and an RBI single to Colt Keith in the sixth. While Ober was stingy with baserunners, the Tigers were able to take advantage of his few mistakes. He's given up eight runs over 16.1 innings across three starts since returning from a left hip impingement. Overall, he's posted a 5.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 86:24 K:BB through 108.1 innings across 20 starts this season. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Athletics.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Takes loss despite quality start

Ober (4-7) took the loss against the Royals on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings. Ober started his outing strong by retiring the first seven batters he faced, and despite limiting the Royals' offense to a Maikel Garcia RBI double in the third, there wasn't enough run support from the Twins batters to avoid the loss. It was Ober's seventh quality start of the season and first since returning from a left hip impingement Aug. 2. Ober is in line to make his next start at home against the Tigers next week.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Lasts five innings in return

Ober (hip) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision Saturday versus the Guardians. Ober missed a month due to a left hip impingement. He had only stretched back out to 65 pitches during his rehab assignment, but he was able to throw 91 pitches (62 strikes) Saturday, so he should have no further workload restrictions as long as he feels good between starts. The next goal for the right-hander will be putting a strong finish on what's been a difficult campaign -- he's pitched to a 5.38 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 78:23 K:BB through 97 innings across 18 starts. Home runs have been the big issue; after allowing two of them against Cleveland, he's yielded 23 long balls on the year, four off his career-high 27 across 178.2 innings last year. Ober is projected to make his next start at home versus the Royals.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Four scoreless in rehab outing

Ober (hip) struck out three over four scoreless frames in his first rehab start with Triple-A St. Paul on Friday. Ober got his pitch count up to 50 in the outing, with 43 of those offerings going for strikes. Per Dan Hayes of The Athletic, Ober averaged 90.4 mph with his four-seamer, which is a bit below his season average. While it's possible Ober rejoins the Twins' rotation this week, the club might elect to give him one more rehab start to continue building up his pitch count. Ober has been out for all of July with a left hip impingement.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Making rehab start Friday

Ober (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Ober landed on the 15-day injured list at the beginning of July with a left hip impingement. He was never shut down from throwing while on the IL, so the big right-hander might require just the one rehab start before potentially rejoining the Twins' rotation next week. Ober holds a disappointing 5.28 ERA in 17 starts for the Twins this season.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Gives up four homers in loss

Ober (4-3) took the loss Thursday against the Rangers, allowing seven runs on six hits and six walks across 4.2 innings. He struck out three. It was a rough day for Ober, who gave up season highs in both walks and home runs (four) in a lopsided defeat. The long ball has hurt Ober of late -- he's now given up seven homers across 15.2 innings in his last three starts. His ERA is up to 4.40 with a 1.38 WHIP and 57:21 K:BB across 14 starts (73.2 innings) this season. Ober will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively lined up for next week in Cincinnati.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Inefficient in Saturday's start

Ober allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Saturday. Ober gave up a two-run home run to Cal Raleigh in the third inning to account for the damage on his line. Beyond that, it was simple inefficiency that led to Ober's short start, as he threw 64 of 97 pitches for strikes. That's been a recurring theme during his stretch of five straight no-decisions -- he's completed five innings in just two of those starts. However, he hasn't allowed more than three runs since his season debut. Overall, he has a 3.48 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB through 62 innings over 12 starts. The right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Athletics.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Start halted by rain

Ober allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out three batters over three innings Monday versus Cleveland in a game that was suspended until Tuesday due to inclement weather. Ober gave up a run in the first inning but held a 2-1 lead before the contest was suspended. The right-hander threw 42 pitches (an efficient 35 of which were strikes) and will have to settle for a no-decision given the short outing. It's a disappointing outcome for fantasy managers who roster Ober, but the hurler should at least be well-rested by the time his next turn in the rotation comes up, which lines up to be this weekend versus Kansas City.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Struggles with control Wednesday

Ober came away with a no-decision in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out three. The right-hander failed to complete five innings for the first time since April 5 and issued more than two free passes for the first time since March 30, as Ober tossed only 57 of his 102 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. Despite the shaky control, he still allowed three runs or fewer for the eighth straight outing. Ober will take a 3.72 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB through 48.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Guardians.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Collects third win

Ober (3-1) earned the win Monday at Cleveland, allowing one run on eight hits and one walk over 7.2 innings. He struck out two. Despite generating a paltry six whiffs, Ober secured his third consecutive win in his longest outing of the season. The Minnesota right-hander scattered seven singles and a double, with the only blemish on his line coming via a Jhonkensy Noel RBI-single in the fifth. Through 32.2 innings, Ober sports a 4.13 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB. He is currently slated to make his next start at Boston.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Crushed by Cardinals

Ober (0-1) coughed up eight runs on eight hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against St. Louis. He was pitching despite coming down with a virus that had him in bed Friday and getting IV fluids Saturday, Phil Miller of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Ober danced out of a two-on, one-out situation in the first inning, but things quickly unraveled from there. He served up a three-run shot to Victor Scott in the second and gave up five runs in the third, including another three-run jack by Pedro Pages. Ober looked impressive during spring training, posting a 1.77 ERA across 20.1 frames. The 6-foot-9 righty has posted a sub-4.00 ERA in each of his last three seasons. Ober's next outing is currently projected to be at home against the Astros.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Six strikeouts in spring debut

Ober gave up two runs with six strikeouts and one walk in three innings in his first spring start Saturday. Ober gave up a home run, but the six strikeouts show he's in good form as spring begins. After recording 12 wins and 191 strikeouts over 178.2 innings with a 3.98 ERA and 1.00 WHIP last season, he's set to be a dependable part again of the Minnesota rotation.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Receives $3.55 million for 2025

The Twins and Ober avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.55 million contract Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Ober will get a well-deserved pay bump in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The big right-hander put up a 3.98 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 191:43 K:BB over a career-high 178.2 innings and career-high 31 starts in 2024.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Loses three of final four starts

Ober (12-9) was saddled with the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings against the Orioles. He struck out four. Ober held the Orioles off the board through four innings but yielded a three-run blast to James McCann with one out in the fifth that erased a two-run lead. Ober ended the season on a sour note, losing three of his last four starts while compiling a 5.32 ERA over 23.2 innings. However, the righty finished the 2024 campaign with 12 wins and 191 strikeouts over 178.2 innings, and he was fifth in the majors with a 1.00 WHIP -- making his 3.98 ERA feel a bit unlucky.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Done in by one rough inning

Ober (12-8) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings, taking the loss versus the Marlins on Tuesday. Ober allowed all four runs in the second inning, and the Twins' offense couldn't back him up. The right-hander has gone eight starts without a win, allowing 26 runs over 45.2 innings with a 50:12 K:BB in that span. His late fade has pushed his ERA up to 3.94 with a 1.00 WHIP and 187:43 K:BB through 173.2 innings over 30 starts this season. Ober is tentatively projected to make one more regular-season start at home versus the Orioles.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Racks up 12 punchouts Wednesday

Ober allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 12 batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Wednesday. Ober tallied 17 whiffs while demonstrating excellent command by throwing 70 of 101 pitches for strikes. The only negative aspect of his performance is that two of the four hits against him left the park, which played a part in preventing him from emerging with a victory. Nonetheless, Ober picked up his third quality start across his past five outings, and in those trio of quality starts he's surrendered just six hits while allowing only three runs and posting a 27:3 K:BB across 20 frames. It should be mentioned, though, that in the two other starts during that five-game span, Ober has struggled, yielding 14 runs with an 8:4 K:BB over 8.2 frames.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Fades late in Friday's loss

Ober (12-7) took the loss Friday as the Twins fell 8-4 to the Reds, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six. The righty pitched well through six innings as the two teams battled to a 1-1 stalemate, but the wheels came off for Ober in the seventh as the first four Cincinnati batters reached base, starting with a Spencer Steer leadoff triple. Ober has gone six straight starts without recording a win, stumbling to a 5.35 ERA over that stretch despite a 1.07 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB through 33.2 innings. He'll try to reverse his fortunes in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cleveland.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Produces quality start Sunday

Ober allowed one run on one hit and three walks while striking out eight over six innings in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision. Ober gave up a solo home run to Ernie Clement on the fifth pitch he threw of the day but otherwise dominated the Blue Jays. It was a huge bounce-back performance after he allowed a season-worst nine runs in his previous start. That's now 12 quality starts in his last 13 outings for Ober, and his strikeout numbers were up Sunday after managing only 10 strikeouts over his previous 14 innings. The 29-year-old owns a 3.95 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 155:39 K:BB in 148 innings and lines up to make his next start on the road against the Royals over the weekend.

  • Twins' Bailey Ober: Allows two runs in no-decision

Ober did not factor into the decision in a win over the Rangers on Thursday, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out three. All of the damage against Ober came in the opening frame when he allowed four of the first batters to reach base, leading to two runs coming across for Texas. The right-hander then held the Rangers scoreless over the next five frames, logging his 10th consecutive quality start. Ober has surrendered just one home run over his last four outings, though he's also issued multiple walks in four straight. Thursday's no-decision also snapped a four-game winning streak for the 29-year-old.
